Job Description / Duties

The Shadbolt Centre for the Arts provides excellence in the fine and performing arts through professional programming and community resources – theatre presentations and rentals, arts learning and festivals and special events. Join our team of passionate, collaborative and innovative leaders.

This is specialized supervisory and technical work in coordinating the provision of a wide range of facility management and operations including theatrical and stage services for a variety of clients and programs utilizing the Shadbolt Centre for the Arts and outdoor Park spaces and coordinating janitorial, capital and building maintenance for Shadbolt Centre, and heritage properties on site.

An incumbent coordinates the facility operation of Shadbolt Centre and heritage properties on site including facility maintenance and janitorial services; monitors building systems, responds to problems and arranges repairs and maintenance with contractors; plans, assigns, supervises and checks the work of a moderate sized group staff engaged in maintenance and janitorial tasks and full-time and several auxiliary technical and non-technical staff engaged in a variety of theatrical operations; coordinates the design, purchase and installation of technical systems; researches and tests equipment and prepares recommendations, technical specifications and draft tender documents; prepares the facility operation budget; consults with, advises and assists theatre lessees with a variety of matters relative to stage management, scenic, lighting, sound requirements and theatre operational procedures. Performs other related work as required.

Qualifications / Required Skills

Qualifications include completion of a diploma in a field related to the work plus sound related stage management and facility operation and maintenance experience OR an equivalent combination of training, education and experience. Considerable knowledge of the methods, practices, techniques, materials, tools and equipment used in the operation, maintenance and administration of a Municipal arts/culture and theatre complex; of technical stage requirements for a variety of theatrical productions, shows and presentations. Ability to consult with, advise and assist performing arts groups and internal staff regarding the technical aspects of their productions and to plan and coordinate provision of technical services; to coordinate the design, purchase and installation of technical systems; to prepare and monitor the theatre and facility operating budgets; to deal effectively with a variety of internal and external contacts. Skill in the use of a variety of tools and equipment used in the work.

Salary: $5,320 – 5,538 – 5,771 – 6,011 – 6,264/month (2021 Rates)
