Job Description / Duties

Cultural and Heritage Programs is responsible for multi-disciplinary arts centres, heritage and museum facilities and structures, the delivery of arts, heritage and museum public programming and events, volunteer program development, audience development, and exhibits and research.

You direct the resources and operation of the Rental and Production Services for the Theatre/Centre, including facilities and equipment, and manage staff and associated budgets while ensuring the services provided to theatre clients are done efficiently, effectively and safely. You also: coordinate the production activity and flow of information among artistic, administrative and production staff; develop and oversee training programs specific to the live entertainment industry; consult, inspect and approve all in-coming production components; and plan, implement and evaluate production programs.

Qualifications / Required Skills

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Completion of 3 year university degree specializing in Technical Theatre and Production or equivalent
Minimum of 5 years of experience with demonstrated success in a similar position

CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENCES
Current Special Effects Pyrotechnician operator certificate with Natural Resources Canada

KNOWLEDGE

Production Management, Lighting Design, Audio Design, Stage Management, Pyrotechnic Special Effects, Rigging Systems
Management principles and theory
Project management skills
A working knowledge of the Ontario Building Code
Expert knowledge of health and safety and other legislation, including those specific to the live entertainment industry. Must have knowledge of any potential or actual danger to health or safety in the work place, and have knowledge of appropriate actions to be taken in order to ensure the health and safety of staff in accordance with applicable legislation and city policies and procedures.
Comprehensive knowledge of design and set construction
In depth knowledge of production administration and management, stage management, master carpentry, counterweight flying systems, lighting and audio systems, atmospheric systems, project management and procurement practices
Proficiency in Microsoft Office including Excel and in CADD design programs
Must possess the training, experience and knowledge to organize the work and its performance
Must be familiar with all applicable health and safety legislation, have knowledge of any potential or actual danger to health or safety in the work place, and have knowledge of appropriate actions to be taken in order to ensure the health and safety of staff in accordance with applicable legislation and City policies and procedures.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

Language Requirement: Designated Bilingual – specific level of language proficiency: French: oral, reading, writing English: oral, reading, writing Candidates who do not meet language requirements will be required to participate in training.
Police Record Check: The successful candidate will be required to complete a Criminal Records and Judicial Matters Check with the Police Services detachment in their jurisdiction to the City of Ottawa’s satisfaction.; Note: Under the age of 18, requires a Criminal Record and Judicial Matters check in place of the Vulnerable Sector Check.; Police record checks completed by a third-party company will not be accepted.
Experience and formal training combined with demonstrated performance and ability may substitute for stipulated academic requirements.

Salary: $79,810.64 - $97,111.56  annually (2022 rates of pay)
