Job Description / Duties

Reporting to and under the supervision of the Front of House Manager (FOHM), the Assistant Front of House Manager (AFOHM) provides management and guidance for RMTS events ensuring an efficient and enjoyable audience experience while ensuring the safety of the public and staff under their supervision. The incumbent is responsible for working closely with the FOHM, RMTS Admin Staff, Box Office, and production personnel to ensure the highest quality Front of House operations while upholding a world-class level of patron and client service.
Duties may involve assistance in short and long term planning, issues of employee safety, maintenance of Front of House equipment, supervision of all ushers, concession, and bar staff. Performing duties as assigned and other administrative functions including preparing staff schedules for approval of the FOHM, preliminary review of prospective employees, stock ordering, performing inventory counts and reception planning. The AFOHM may be appointed to act for the FOHM in their absence.
This is a 40hr per week salaried position based upon a flexible work week that includes evenings and weekends. The position is responsible for a minimum of 3 show calls per week (subject to show schedule) with the remaining hours allocated to administrative duties. The hourly wage, as of December 31, 2019, is $27.98 an hour. After the initial 3-month probationary period, participation in the Municipal Pension Plan and Employer Benefit Package is mandatory. Holidays, stats, and overtime are covered in the RMTS/IATSE Local 168 Collective Agreement.
This position will work independently most of the time, however weekly meetings with the Front of House Manager to review policy and the standards for the FOH department of the RMTS will occur.

AFOHM will assist FOHM with the following Admin Responsibilities:
• Act as FOHM when necessary
• Training staff
• Review and implementation of evacuation protocols and all safety procedures
• Monthly FOH staff schedule
• Day-to-day staff schedule changes
• Floats/change for both theatres
• Preparing FOH advance information for staff
• Food and Beverage inventory ordering and control, working with Finance Dept
• Office supply ordering
• First Aid and other training scheduling for FOH staff
• Special event ordering/pick-ups (i.e. special liquor, transfer bar equipment between theatres, etc.)
• Ensure compliance with cash handling policies and procedures
• Balancing and reconciling nightly sales when on a show call
• Collecting, storing, and tracking Lost & Found as necessary
• Following opening and closing shift procedures
• Maintaining clean and organized work areas
• Other duties as assigned

Qualifications / Required Skills

Required Skills and Experience
• A minimum of 2 years working in management in the Front of House/Client Services department of a theatre or arts facility or 3 years of comparable work in another sector
• A minimum of 2 years working in a supervisory capacity, including experience hiring, training, motivating and when necessary, disciplining employees
• A proven ability to schedule staff (or volunteers) of over 75 people
• Experience in employee safety and Level 2 First Aid (First Aid training can be provided)
• A proven track record working with clients and patrons
• Independent problem solving and multitasking skills, with attention to detail in a fast-paced, high energy, artistic environment
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with a desire to work in a team environment
• Ability to deal with complaints to a satisfactory conclusion
• Ability to work independently, and in a supervisory role
• Knowledge of Bar and Concession procedure, paperwork and a valid Serving it Right certificate
• Ability to successfully reconcile and balance daily cash sheets and floats
• Proficiency with computer, especially Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and Google Suite required
• Physically able to lift up to 50 lbs
• Knowledge of the Royal Theatre and the McPherson Playhouse is an asset
• Experience working in a bar/restaurant environment is an asset
• Point of sale and inventory management experience is an asset
