Workshop: Mental Health First Aid Certification
Aaniin BC CITT Members,
Our industry asks a great deal of us—long hours, high-pressure production schedules, and emotionally demanding environments. Increasingly, safety leaders such as the Event Safety Alliance and Actsafe Safety Association emphasize that mental health is as critical as physical safety, particularly in arts and entertainment. Through proactive open dialogue, and stronger workplace supports, we can reduce burnout and build resilience across our sector.
The Miikana Project is pleased to offer Mental Health First Aid Certification for BC teams at a significantly reduced rate. This is not a generic training: facilitator Dagan Nish brings direct industry experience, with scenarios tailored to theatre, live performance, and production environments.
Developed by the Mental Health Commission of Canada, this interactive certification focuses on reducing stigma, strengthening coping strategies, and building confidence in responding to mental health concerns in the workplace.
Participants will gain skills to:
Start supportive conversations
Distinguish performance issues from underlying distress Support colleagues in staying engaged and safe Strengthen team culture on and off stage
As many of us navigate the realities of working in downtown Vancouver—late calls, commuting, and public-facing environments—mental health literacy is becoming an essential skill. This training builds on work already underway with film union teams and brings it into the performing arts community.
