Reporting to the Artistic Director, the Tour Producer takes a leadership role in the management and execution of Driftwood Theatre’s Bard’s Bus Tour – a five week tour of “Shakespeare in the park” across Ontario, reaching over 5000 audience members in more than 25 communities.
The Tour Producer takes ownership of a number of key areas of responsibility including touring partner relations, company management, outreach programs and tour marketing. This is a half-time seasonal position – from March 28, 2016 to August 31, 2016. The Tour Producer will be expected to travel with the company for approximately 30% of the summer tour.
Duties and Responsibilities
Company Management – working with Stage Management and Production Management to communicate schedules of activities for the company, assisting Artistic Director with contracting.
Outreach Programs Coordination – coordinate schedules, venues, staffing, payments and reports for all outreach activities (workshops, pre-/post-show chats, Creative Roots Training Intensive)
Touring Partner Relations – primary liaison with touring partners across the province, including contracting, communications, obtaining permits, support, site visits, reporting and invoicing etc.
Tour Marketing – in collaboration with Artistic Director, finalize and implement the advertising and publicity plan for the 2016 tour, create and implement a digital content plan across all digital platforms (social, e-newsletters, website, blog etc), coordinate publications, and monitor sales and revenue targets throughout the tour.
Knowledge and Skills Required
-Must demonstrate a high level of proficiency with wide variety of computer applications. Essential computer skills include the Microsoft Office Suite (or equivalent), basic desktop publishing (Publisher or InDesign), basic graphic design (Photoshop), and the ability and willingness to learn new computer applications (box office applications, donor databases, cloud-based technology, social and digital media tools).
-High degree of motivation and professionalism.
-Experience in and understanding of performing arts organizations, including at least 3 years of work experience and some degree of management experience.
-Ability to communicate and work productively with artists and theatrical staff.
-Ability to build positive relationships with a variety of organizational stakeholders.
-Ability to make administrative and procedural decisions.
-Strong communications, speaking and presentation skills.
Working Conditions and Environment
-This is half-time, seasonal position with some flexibility in the schedule and location of work; however the Tour Producer is expected to travel with the company for approximately 30% of the tour dates, schedule to be determined.
-Driftwood Theatre operates in a “virtual office.” The Tour Producer will be required to supply their own place of work, with regular face-to-face working sessions with other team members scheduled at a mutually convenient time and place.
