Job Description / Duties

Persephone Theatre is currently seeking to fill the position of Technical Director. This is a full-time position and is responsible for the co-ordination of the overall technical requirements for Persephone Theatre productions. Reporting directly to the Production Manager, the Technical is responsible for:

•Overseeing the costing of Persephone Theatre productions, in consultation with the various Production Department heads.

•Maintaining and documenting safety training as it applies to the Persephone Theatre Production Department.

•Co-ordinating the build schedules for productions, in consultation with Production Manager.

•Co-ordination of all fit-up, strike and maintenance calls for productions and events, including staffing in consultation with Production Manager, and providing overall supervision for these activities.

•Advising designers, and maintaining the flow of information between designers, stage management and production staff.

•Maintenance and update of theatre drawings and technical specifications and responsible for forwarding this information to design teams.

•Assisting with building operations and facility maintenance as it pertains to health and safety, life safety, renovations, repairs, and upgrades.

•Co-ordinating with guest theatre companies and community rentals for all technical and staffing requirements.

Qualifications / Required Skills

•Graduate of a recognized theatre program and/or a minimum of 3 years experience as a Technical Director with a producing theatre company.

•Broad working knowledge of all production elements as applicable to a producing theatre.

•Strong drafting, CAD and computer skills.

•Experience with show costing, budget tracking, material purchasing, and equipment replacement.

•Experience creating production schedules and managing large crews.

•Strong interpersonal and leadership abilities.

•A track record of meeting deadlines and budget targets.

•A Valid Class G Driver’s license (or equivalent) will be required.
•Experience with safety policies, procedures and legislation on both an organizational and provincial/federal government level will be considered a strong asset.

•Experience working in a union environment.
