Job Description / Duties

The Technical Director(TD), French Theatre is a member of the production team responsible for the efficient operation of the technical aspects of productions mounted or presented at the NAC. The TD must manage the available resources to ensure that all productions go up on time and on budget. The TD must also help overcome the technical and logistical challenges for visiting companies transferring productions to the NAC, as well as work as part of an overall technical team to ensure efficiently produced quality shows on all stages of the NAC. The ideal incumbent will be willing to commit to the long term development of their own technical, leadership, interpersonal and managerial skills. Team skills are of critical importance in dealing with workers, Heads of Department, Production staff, artists and clients. This position requires the incumbent to work in all genres of live performance, and to accomplish these productions through whatever technical and financial means necessary.

Qualifications / Required Skills

Familiarity with all aspects and genres of live performance
Working knowledge of applicable regulations and working conditions of performers unions (UDA. APASQ, AFM, CAEA, ADC, etc...)
An ability to read and interpret plans
Thorough knowledge of stage lighting, audio, and special effects, with a broad understanding and experience in various performing arts practices
Thorough knowledge of codes and regulations that apply in a theatrical environment as well as best practices in health and safety
Experience in running theatrical productions
Experience in leading and supervising crews in a unionized environment
Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain a good working relationship with artists,clients and colleagues of varying experience levels
Demonstrated ability to coordinate and deliver multiple concurrent projects within schedule and financial constraints
Exceptional computer skills, including the Microsoft Office suite and AutoCAD LT
Must be fluently bilingual in both official languages, both written and oral
Posses a valid driver’s license or ability to obtain a licence within three months of employment
Certification in Fall Arrest, Forklift Operation, Arial Platform Operation, Pyrotechnics Certificate, Firearms Possession and Acquisition Licence are an asset
