Job Description / Duties

Job Overview:
The Theatre Technician facilitates aspects of the stage use in both theatres, and technical needs for other events. For this position we are specifically seeking someone with strong skills in live sound mixing. The contract will go from mid-August to early-June.

Responsibilities and Duties:
• Departmental Responsibilities:
o Act as crew for a show when needed
o Integrate the safe and successful use of outside equipment as needed for events
o Ensure that all safety policies, procedures, and requirements are followed by performers and crew
o Maintain stage equipment and infrastructure, and associated maintenance records, as needed
o Provide technical support for classes, studio rentals, and the Odlum Brown Art Gallery, as needed
o Keep a clean workspace
• Patron Experience Responsibilities:
o Ensure a high level of patron service for the Chilliwack Cultural Centre
o Act as an Ambassador for The Centre when in public
o Suggesting continuous improvements to the patron experience to the Executive Director and Operations Manager
• Participation in the implementation of Chilliwack Arts & Cultural Centre Society Fundraisers, as needed
• Adhering to all Chilliwack Cultural Centre policies and procedures
• Other duties as assigned

Qualifications / Required Skills

Qualifications:
• Minimum 3 years of experience working in a professional theatre, or equivalent combination of training and experience.
• Knowledge and understanding of lighting systems, audio systems, scenery installation standards, rigging standards, basic painting techniques, and props handling.
• Knowledge and adherence to safe working practices.
• Physical fitness: ability to climb, work on ladders and vertical lifts, lift up to 50 pounds and stand for extended periods of time.
• Excellent organization, time management and communication skills, and the tact and diplomacy required to deal in a positive and helpful manner with user groups and other staff,
• The ability to anticipate needs, maintain records, and to respond calmly and effectively to emergency/crisis situations is essential
• Excellent verbal, listening and written communication skills
• Ability to work independently with sound judgment and ability to prioritize tasks while paying attention to detail
• Good computer skills, including competence with Excel and knowledge of industry-standard sound and lighting consoles

Additional Information

Location and Commitment:
• Chilliwack Cultural Centre theatres
• Offsite events and meetings
• This is a part-time position averaging approximately 30 hours per week, with weekly hours that may fluctuate based on event schedules and operational needs. For example, during peak periods weekly hours may exceed 40.
• Requires a flexible schedule, including nights and weekends for shows, events, and meetings

Salary: • $23 to $25 per hour based on experience and/or education
