Job Description / Duties

GENERAL GRIP DEPARTMENT DUTIES: General movement of the camera on any platform. Rigging stages, including the installation of lighting grids, and various backdrops. The control of artificial and natural light for photographic purposes. The diffusion and colour correction of both artificial and natural light. The creation of shadows and control of reflections. The operation of cranes and camera dollies. The protection of camera and crew from explosions and flying objects. These are only a few examples of the many responsibilities of the Grip Department.

Qualifications / Required Skills

Grips MUST provide proof of the following:
□ Valid Aerial Boom/Scissor Lift Certificate
□ Valid Fall Protection Certificate
□ Valid WHMIS Certificate (can be found and done on-line)

Applicants are to include 3 references/Work Verification Letters:
□ Issued from applicants’ direct supervisor, drawn from applicant’s work experience in a related craft, trade, or organization. Letter must contain: date letter written, company/production name, applicants’ name and role/title specifying the length of time worked and contact email
and phone number of reference. (sample attached)


□ If the applicant has work related and film experience, references from Key Grips are required. Letter must contain: date letter written, company/production name, applicants’ name and role/title specifying the length of time worked and contact email and phone number of reference. Grip Assets:
□ High School Diploma or equivalent
□ Motion Picture Industry Orientation Certificate
□ Should have 120 days experience in a related craft, trade, or organization. This experience could include but may not be limited to:
□ Independent film
□ Commercials
□ Public Service Announcements (PSA’s)
□ Industrials

□ Other related trades:
□ Carpentry
□ lighting
□ Rigging
□ Steel fabricating/fitting
□ Electronics
□ Mechanics
□ Search & rescue (climbing)
□ Ironwork
□ Machinery
□ Other

Additional Information

This position is physically demanding and may involve standing for long periods of time, bending, pushing, pulling and lifting. This position may require the operation of power tools and may involve working at heights.
Short term contract work to start immediately in various locations within Metro Vancouver. This is the film business, expect to work a lot of overtime hours. Shift work may be required as well as weekend work. The work is mainly located in Metro Vancouver.

Salary: $25.62/hour minimum
