Job Description / Duties

The Wardrobe Supervisor will oversee all areas of wardrobe for Canada’s Ballet Jörgen, including fittings, alterations, repairs, inventory, organization and laundry. The Wardrobe Supervisor will tour with the Company, so a desire to travel to small communities from coast to coast across all ten Canadian provinces and into the United States is a must.

Touring responsibilities include:
• Supervise pre-tour costume load-out from warehouse and studio;
• Supervising theatre wardrobe personnel;
• Assisting with costume load-in, setup and load-out;
• Fittings for Local Participants;
• Costume repairs/alterations;
• Laundry; costumes to dry cleaners
• Keeping detailed notes on costumes and venue wardrobe facilities;
• Driving production vehicles including 16’ box cube.
Toronto responsibilities include:
• Assisting with Toronto area performances as outlined in Touring Responsibilities;
• In studio performance assistance;
• Sourcing/building costumes for 2-3 George Brown Dance performances per year;
• Costume fittings;
• Costume repairs and alterations;
• General costume upkeep;
• Assisting with dancer shoe inventory and packing for tour;
• Managing costume use for rehearsals;
• Managing costume storage at Company warehouse;
• Managing costume rentals;
• Updating paperwork for all Company ballets and keeping a detailed costume inventory & photos;

Qualifications / Required Skills

• Good knowledge of costume repair and cleaning techniques a must;
• Experience as a qualified seamstress in a professional setting and prior theatrical dance costume experience a must;
• Class G Ontario Drivers Licence or equivalent a must;
• Valid passport a must;
• Willing to work irregular hours, including nights and weekends;
• Self-motivated, able to work independently while also being a part of a small team and possess good organizational and time management skills;
• Strong communication skills, both written and verbal;
• Knowledge of wig maintenance an asset;
• Touring experience an asset;
• Must be able to handle stressful situations and deadline pressure while ensuring accuracy

Additional Information

The Wardrobe Supervisor will report to the Artistic Director and work closely with the Production Manager and Education Manager.
Canada’s Ballet Jörgen will be touring "Nutcracker" in Ontario, “Romeo & Juliet” in British Columbia, Saskatchewan and Quebec, and “Anne of Green Gables” in Ontario and the States.

Salary: From $45,000/year
