Annual/hourly salary: $39.01 per hour, as per IATSE Collective Agreement

Key activities:
Working as the Wig Mistress/Mister you are responsible for the actors’/performers' appearance. This includes making sure that they have the correct wig before they appear in front of the audience and during each performance.
The Wig Mistress/Mister must be able to interpret the director’s or production designer’s design, ensuring that they are both visually and technically accurate for the given period that the play is set.
The Wig Mistress/Mister will be responsible for creating, styling, fitting, altering, and maintaining all wigs, hairpieces, and facial hair required for the production.
Specific duties include, but are not limited to:
• responsible and accountable for the construction and maintenance of wigs required for productions onstage;
• responsible to co-ordinate the work of the Wig Shop which includes the allocation of duties and monitoring of crew;
• responsible for maintaining and cataloguing wig and supply inventory;
• research wig & hair products and produce samples for approval.

Due to the nature of the position, you will be required to report into the National Arts Centre (NAC) building, effective your first date of employment.

Qualifications / Required Skills
Required qualifications:
• Minimum of five years’ professional experience as a Wig Mistress/Master for theatrical productions;
• Cutting, styling and colouring skills are essential;
• A thorough knowledge of how theatrical lighting & gel colours are used and how these will affect the colour and quality of the hairpiece;
• The ability to teach a performer the proper way to apply hairpieces or hair appliances (beards etc), when the performer requires no assistance during the performance;
• The ability to estimate labour and materials to create a hairpiece;
• The ability to manage within a budget and time constraints;
• A commitment to regularly update your skills and knowledge;
• A commitment to researching new hair products, materials, techniques, technologies, tools, and advancements is crucial;
• The ability to create hairpieces or style Black, Asian, and Indigenous people’s hair is required.
Salary: $39.01 per hour, as per IATSE Collective Agreement
