Job Description / Duties

The Division of Dance is seeking a visiting guest artist who will provide our students with a strong base in current Contemporary dance techniques, and who will also contribute significantly to the students’ national and international perspective on Contemporary dance.

This position requires a fourteen week commitment from one guest artist: January 9- April 12, 2017 OR a 7 week commitment each from 2 guest artists: January 9 - February 24, 2017 and February 27 - April 12, 2017. Non-Canadian applicants may only apply for the fourteen week teaching option. 

Responsibilities include teaching Contemporary dance, improvisation, and choreography to dance majors, teaching Contemporary dance to non-majors, and creating a new work or setting repertory on advanced dance majors. The candidate will also be expected to provide service to the Dance Division by mentoring and advising the students they teach.

Qualifications / Required Skills

The successful applicant should have:
1. A national and/or international reputation as a Contemporary dance artist with minimum 7 years professional experience in Canada and/or outside Canada.
2. Minimum BFA Dance or equivalent professional training
3. Minimum 3 years teaching Contemporary dance at university and/or professional levels; demonstrated proficiency teaching choreography
4. An international perspective on contemporary trends in dance as developed through dance practice.
5. Minimum 7 years’ experience working as a professional dance artist
outside Alberta
6. Professional experience in the following areas: Contemporary dance techniques from a release training perspective, improvisation, and choreography

The amount of remuneration is calculated according to the Collective Agreement, Schedule B. Please see the Faculty Association's website at http://www.ucalgary.ca/TUCFA for further information regarding conditions of employment and remuneration.

Fourteen week Visiting Artist will be hired at 4 HCE
OR
Seven week Visiting Artist will be hired at 2.0 HCE

As per the Collective Agreement, the SCPA will adhere to the right of first refusal terms (Section 23.12.1 and 23.12.2) for Sessional Appointments, available in detail here.
