Job Description / Duties
SPECIFIC ACCOUNTABILITIES:
Equipment and Technical Operations:
• Demonstrates knowledge and competency in the set up/take down and use of performance quality sound,
lighting, and video equipment, specifically in theatre and outdoor event settings.
• Operates all aspects of performing arts theatre sound and visual and stage equipment safely and effectively.
• As assigned, sets up and/or operates equipment for special events and other City functions.
• Performs repairs, regular inspections and preventative maintenance on all City theatre and event equipment.
• Informs supervisor of the life-cycle replacement and new equipment requirements, based on needs of users, new technologies, efficiency and cost.
• Contributes to a comprehensive inventory of current equipment that meets or exceeds asset management requirements.
Quality Customer Experience:
• Ensure quality spaces and amenities through staff training and addressing user needs.
• In the supervisor's absence address customer concerns courteously and escalate as needed for follow-up.
• Maintain high customer experience standards for performers, presenters, audiences, and users through proper operation of theatre and event equipment.
• Recommend and adjust technical elements to improve the presentation and/or experience.
• Coordinate technical logistics with artists and facility users as directed by the supervisor.
• Train and support volunteers and staff in the safe setup and operation of sound and lighting equipment.
Administration and Finance:
• Ensure all required documentation (e.g., facility and safety inspections, toolbox meeting reports, incident reports) is completed by staff and deficiencies are reported to the Supervisor.
• Through use Cartegraph and other operational tools to create reports, complete and submit maintenance and operational requirements supplying them to the Supervisor or designated individuals promptly.
Safety and Risk:
• Demonstrate a strong understanding of OHS legislation and City requirements and processes.
• Contribute to a positive safety culture by always acting in a safe manner and complying with City safety policies and procedures for staff, volunteers and contractors.
• Ensure proper use of PPE and adherence to safe operating practices for assigned equipment.
• Complete required reporting and follow-up in a timely manner.
• Identify and mitigate risks to the public and facility users.
Other Duties:
• Understand and adhere to City policies, procedures and standards, whether written or implied, as amended from time to time.
• Act as a steward of the City's Corporate Culture by following the “Values, We Live By”.
• All employees shall act in a safe manner at all times and will report any unsafe conditions, procedures or acts for the benefit of the City. Continual adherence to the City Safety Policy is mandatory.
• It is the responsibility of the employees to keep current on WHMIS and other safety-related procedures.
• Perform other job-related duties as required.
Qualifications / Required Skills
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
• Post Secondary Diploma in Technical Theatre, or in a related field.
• A minimum of two year of related experience.
• Aerial Work Platform certificate.
• Fall arrest certificate.
• Basic Level - MAP XT, StagePlot
• Intermediate Level - EOS Family Lighting Consoles, Vectorworks/AutoCAD 360, Yamaha Sound Consoles, Wireless Microphones, Video Projectors, Yamaha Studio Manager, Shure Wireless Workbench, Woodworking and Power Tools, Aerial Work Platforms, Theatrical Rigging Systems, Studio Manager, Excel, Powerpoint, Keynote, Microsoft Windows, Windows Media Player.
• Advanced Level - EOS Console, ETC Express console, VLC.
• Advanced communication skills and excellent presentation skills.
• Excellent interpersonal skills.
• Excellent collaborative negotiation and problems solving skills.
• Enhanced knowledge of Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, Teams, and PowerPoint.
ASSET QUALIFICATIONS:
• Pyrotechnic Certificate.
• Municipal experience.

Additional Information
WORKING ENVIRONMENT:
• 40-hour work week
• Hours of Work: Variable depending on production schedule
• Shiftwork – includes evenings, weekends and/or statutory holidays.
• Overtime may be required.
• Travel may be required.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
• Sitting, standing, walking, climbing, stairs, kneeling, manual dexterity, visual acuity/color vision.
• Climbing ladders, balancing, crawling, crouching, depth perception/night, lifting, pushing, reaching (both arms), use of feet (for control), pulling, outside work.
• Lifting to 20kg (44lbs).
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
• Class 5 Driver’s License
• Must obtain a satisfactory review of a three-year Driver’s Abstract, with a maximum of six demerits.
• Criminal Record Check Clearance.
Salary: $57,740.80 – 68,640.00
