Job Description / Duties

To join our dynamic team, the Segal Centre is looking for:

Someone who will bring three or more years of Technical Direction or comparable experience to the challenge of delivering, safely and efficiently, the technical aspects of all Segal Theatre productions as well as any rentals which take place in the Segal Theatre, rehearsal hall, scene/prop shop and storage areas.

Someone who will be dedicated to ensuring the financial, environmental and cultural sustainability of the Segal Centre through accurate forecasting and budgetary tracking; keeping the Centre’s equipment in proper working order and exploring efficiencies for reducing waste; developing and maintaining excellent relationships with local and visiting artists and crews.

Someone self-motivated who works well in a team and who enjoys the collaborative and creative process involved in working in the arts.

The Technical Director will report directly to the Production Manager under the supervision of the Producer and Artistic Director.

Qualifications / Required Skills

• Graduate of a theatre programme at a recognized university or college, or have equivalent working experience, with preference will be given to individuals with 3 or more years experience as a Technical Director or equivalent.
• Individual shall have a sound working knowledge of all the elements of production and shall stay abreast of developments in all of these areas.
• Individual shall have worked at some level in all areas of theatre production.
• Individual shall have a sound knowledge of drafting for the theatre as well as CADD skills and Lighting, Sound and Scenic design experience would be an asset.
•Individual shall have strong interpersonal skills and be able to provide leadership and have experience managing crews.
•Individual shall be computer literate including Word, Excel and Outlook and have some management training, including basic accounting.
•Individual shall have a sound knowledge of construction techniques and the materials used in the staging of any production and have experience in estimating and ordering scenic materials.
•Individual shall be aware of Health and Safety regulations and best practices as recommended by the CSST and CITT.
•A valid driver’s license and knowledge of French are assets.

Additional Information

Start date is immediate. Evaluation of applications will begin immediately and will continue until the position has been filled.

Salary: Salary is commensurate with experience.
