Job Description / Duties

Starting: Immediately or as soon as possible

Position: Sound/Lighting Technician Half Time with a flexible schedule and other duties
Location: Lawrence O’Brien Arts Centre in Happy Valley-Goose Bay, Labrador
Hours: The job will have flexible daytime and evening hours - depending on how much activity there is in the theatre. The wage is based on 20 hours per week, but when the theatre is busy the technician will be required to work more hours and flex-time off will be taken in lieu of overtime.

Duties: The O’Brien Arts Centre is a community run facility. The technician’s immediate supervisor is the theatre manager. Both the manager and the technician are employees of the Eastern Labrador Arts Alliance which is a volunteer board. There are a lot of volunteers that help out at the theatre and the technician is expected to assist with the training of interested volunteer technicians, and coordinate technical ‘crew’.

Primarily the technician will provide technical support to all users of the Arts Centre, but this position will also involve other duties related to maintaining the Arts Centre, as directed by the manager. These other duties may be related to cleaning, storage, building maintenance, and inventory.

The technician is expected to :
- monitor, maintain, and organize technical equipment, keep an inventory and inform the manager about any repairs needed
-troubleshoot problems with software and hardware, install software, set up new computers and other hardware.

Skills: All employees need to have knowledge of the ELAA, and understand its goals and objectives. The technician needs the ability to :
-maintain a flexible work schedule and accommodate all performances and user groups in the theatre
-work in high pressure situations and handle multiple tasks maintaining professional demeanour
-work with little or no supervision
-work well with young people and be able to communicate and mentor interested amateurs

Qualifications / Required Skills

Qualifications: Degree /Certification from a recognized post-secondary institution in sound and lighting

Additional Information

The theatre has an on call sound technician and a team of tech volunteers, but we have grown to the point where a half time technician is needed on site through out the year. The theate is busiset from mid September until mid June. The technician would be free in the summer to work festivals, and could also find other part time work in the community during the year if desired.

Salary: $20,800.00 ($20 / hour) plus benefits
