Job Description / Duties

Role Objective
The Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra seeks an experienced TECHNICAL COORDINATOR. Beginning in August 2021, the successful candidate will supervise the technical aspects of production for the orchestra’s concerts and non-concert events, with a particular focus on the coordination of physical, technical, human, and financial resources around livestreaming, video recording, video editing, and audio production.

Key Responsibilities
Under the supervision of the Production Manager, and in coordination with all members of the Operations Team, the Technical Coordinator will ensure the highest quality production of all concert and non-concert events. Key responsibilities include:
• Coordination of livestreaming aspects of all WSO events, includes but not limited to – create livestreaming links on WSO’s streaming platform, record and edit introduction videos, load event/piece introduction videos and graphics into Wirecast streaming software, directing all activities in the streaming booth in conjunction with the Stage Manager during performances, and operation of Wirecast livestreaming software and video switcher during events.
• Assist the Production Manager with the supervision of all aspects of the video and audio technical requirements for WSO productions at our home venue, the Centennial Concert Hall, on run-outs provincially, or on national/international tours.
• Facilitate technical rentals, transportation, and logistics for audio and video equipment.
• Through the WSO Stage Manager, liaise with, supervise and manage venue video and audio crews working on WSO productions at all venues.
• Assist the Production Manager with the budgeting, planning and execution of efficient crew calls for all WSO activities.
• Assist the Production Manager with the planning and execution of all professional recording activities of the WSO, including the engagement of recording engineers.
• Season planning: assist the Production Manager by reviewing technical riders, budgeting projects, and flagging any potential problems prior to season announcement.
• Maintain a list of capital resources in the Operations department, including all video and audio equipment.
• Provide operational support to other WSO departments to ensure their successful event planning & execution.
• All other duties as assigned by the Production Manager.

Qualifications / Required Skills

Qualifications – Required

• Experience in livestreaming professional video events with multiple camera locations.
• Video recording and editing experience.
• Video switcher operation experience.
• Audio recording experience.
• Has exceptional organizational & time-management skills.
• Experience navigating multiple union & venue agreements.
• Computer/smartphone literate, competent in all Microsoft Office applications.
• Is able to interpret Workplace Safety & Health policy and ensure a safe workplace for all production activities.

Qualifications – Ideal but not required

• Experience operating livestreams in Wirecast streaming software.
• Demonstrated success in staging live events.
• A knowledge and interest in classical/symphonic music.
• Experience using databases in the organization of information and documents.
• Possess a valid Class 5 Driver’s License.

Additional Information

• This is a seasonal term contract beginning late August, 2021, for 38 total weeks.
• The position is based on an average of 32-hours per week, and requires attendance at setup, teardown and concert events that may occur in the evenings or on weekends. A draft season schedule will be provided in advance, as there are preparation weeks included in this contract with fewer, more flexible hours.
• The successful candidate is required to provide the WSO with a completed criminal record check, along with both the vulnerable sector and Child Abuse Registry checks, at the candidate’s expense, prior to the start of employment.

Salary: $30,000-$40,000 salary, depending on experience
