Job Description / Duties

The Arts Club Theatre Company is currently accepting applications for the position of Stagehand for our venues: the Stanley Industrial Alliance Stage, Granville Island Stage and Goldcorp Stage. The Stagehand will work under the supervision of the venue Technical Director and will assist the Head Electricians, Stage Carpenters and Venue Techs.

The successful candidate must be self-motivated and have excellent communication skills and the ability to remain calm in stressful situations. Must be flexible in outlook and approach to the position and be diplomatic in dealing with crews, cast, stage managers and all other staff.

This is a Part-Time Regular position under the I.A.T.S.E. 118 collective agreement; employment will be as required, depending on the specific demands of our respective productions.

Duties & Responsibilities
Including, but are not limited to:
Assist with all aspects of pre-production when required
Assist with set fit ups and tear downs in the production shop
Assist with fit up and strike in different Arts Club venues and attend to notes
Assist with truck loading/ unloading and loading at storage facilities
Assist with lighting hangs and focus calls and attend to notes
Assist with sound and video installs as required
Be part of running crew and assist on theatre rentals when required
Assist with occupational safety and health of workers

Qualifications / Required Skills

Minimum of two (2) years of experience or equivalent working as a stage technician
Experience working in a fly house
Valid BC Driver’s License
Experience driving and packing a 5 ton truck
LPEC Certificate
Including, but are not limited to:
Broad knowledge of theatrical procedures, tools and products
Basic knowledge of all aspects of scenic construction
Able to read and understand designer blue prints (e.g. floor plans, elevations, lighting plots)
Ability to safely work at heights and climb ladders
Able to repeatedly lift, push and maneuver heavy loads safely, either alone or with the assistance of others
Proficient working knowledge of counter weighted fly systems and set up, rigging and strike of scenery
Basic knowledge of theatrical stage lighting including hang, focus, and maintenance
Basic knowledge of sound equipment (Microphones, Speakers, Cabling, Digital and Analog Consoles)
Ability to establish priorities, report on projects and achieve deadlines
Take direction and work under time constraints with minimal supervision
Demonstrated strong organization and problem solving skills

Preference may be given to persons holding additional certificates for one, or all of the following; Performing Arts Safety Awareness, WHMIS, 1st Aid, ability to drive a 5 ton truck, Pyrotechnic and/or Firearms certificate
