Job Description / Duties

Perchance Theatre seeks a Stage Hand/Technical Assistant to join us. The ideal candidate will be a proactive, talented, flexible, individual with a deep love of making theatre magic, especially in unique environments.

Working closely with, the Technical Director and Stage Management team, the successful candidate will be integral to the smooth rollout of the 2024 summer repertory season. RESPONSIBILITIES
>This role will require standard backstage production work in an outdoor setting, and primarily e physical labour may be involved. This could include, but is not limited to, climbing ladders, lifting set pieces, participating in set changeovers, with the physical ability to withstand prolonged walking, standing, bending, pushing, stooping and kneeling without restrictions
>Assist carpenters with scenery build and installation of stage scenery
Construct, paint and maintain set pieces, move and rearrange furniture
>Assemble and set up backdrops, scenery and set pieces for rehearsals and productions
>Assemble, dismantle, and store scenery, set pieces and props
>Ensure props are affixed properly as instructed by supervisors
>Disassemble sets
>Any other duties assigned by the Management Team.

ADDITIONAL SHARED DUTIES BY ALL PRODUCTION MEMBERS
>Laundering some costume items (if required).
>Directing patrons to parking (if required).
>Ushering patrons and distributing programs (if required).

Qualifications / Required Skills

>High School student or GED
>Excellent organizational skills.
>Good communication skills.
>Ability to work well in a team.
>Ability to take direction well.
>Ability to lift 50 pounds
>Working at heights
>Comfort working on both A frame and Extension ladders
>Ability to remain calm, positive and focused in a high pressure and deadline based environment.
>Experience working in repertory theatre and/or outdoor theatre is considered an asset.
>Work Shifts vary due to schedules
>First aid training is considered an asset.

Additional Information

​DURATION: 10 weeks - Anticipated Start Date: June, 2024

Salary: $650.00 - $750.00 weekly

Classics are our main focus, with new works and visiting guest performers, rounding out our beloved summer festival. Our theatre hires following the DOT Tier One from CAEA. Our work is created with a focus on the outdoor environment and live creation and as such we have extremely basic lighting, and do mostly live sound/music scapes. Our technical needs focus more on set and props and always creating with an eye to responsible environmental practices. Where possible we reuse and recycle existing theatre elements to minimize our impact.
