Job Description / Duties

The Stratford Festival is looking to expand out wardrobe team and we’re currently accepting applications for the position of Sewer/Tailor for the 2022 season. We are looking for candidates with intermediate to senior level sewing experience. This position reports to their Cutter/Tailor and the Costume Director and is part of the Wardrobe Department team.

Responsibilities:
•Responsible for completing sewing tasks within a timely manner.
•Proficiency, accuracy and independent sewing required.
•Positive work ethic and willingness to learn new techniques.
•Willingness to take direction and improve upon current skills and speed.

Qualifications / Required Skills

Qualifications:
The sewer/tailor needs to be proficient in the following skills:
•Flat basting, tailor tacking, hand finishing.
•Ability to build collars, cuffs and bum rolls without supervision.
•Confident in fine hand finishing, working with multiple layers and difficult fabrics.
•Ability to set in a variety of zippers, sleeves, collars and complete pockets.
•Basic understanding of doublet and/or bodice construction, trouser construction, cartridge pleating, robes and capes, unstructured coats, basic jackets and waistcoat construction.
•Ability to understand the Cutter’s and First Hand’s step by step instructions.
•Must be available to work 40 hours per week plus overtime when required.

Preference will be given to candidates with experience sewing historical costumes.

This Full Time Seasonal Contract position is located in Stratford, Ontario and will begin March 2022.

Hourly Rate: $16.00 - $28.00
