Job Description / Duties

The Stagecraft and Event Technology (SET) Department is seeking to hire a regular probationary instructor to teach courses in Production Techniques, Set Construction, Lighting. Additional ability to teach courses in Audio Techniques, Stage Management, Multimedia Technology, Special Events, and Stagecraft for Film and Television would be an asset.

One part-time regular probationary faculty position [ranging from 4/8 (50%) to 6/8 (75%)] is available starting Fall 2019. The workload will be based on the successful candidate’s areas of expertise.

Workload is assigned each year based on available sections.

You will also be teaching courses in Production Techniques, Set Construction, and Lighting and acting as a mentor to the student cohorts.

You will also be expected to participate in the work of the Department, Faculty, and College community and engage in regular professional development.

In this position you will have to be qualified to teach the following courses:

STGE 1180, 1280, 2380, 2480, 3180, 3280, 3380: Production Techniques
STGE 1106, 2306 : Set Construction

You will also have to be qualified to teach two (2) or more of the following courses:

STGE 1112, 1212: Stage Lighting
STGE 2200: Lighting Software
STGE 2311: Audio Techniques

You may also be qualified to teach one or more of the following courses:

STGE 1220: Stage Management
STGE 2430: Stagecraft for Film and Television
STGE 2410: Multimedia Technology
STGE 2420: Special Events
STGE 2400: Lighting Control Systems

You will be responsible for:
- developing and delivering curriculum in accordance with College Curriculum Guidelines and Policies,
- liaising with staff technicians for class and production support,
- assessing student work in accordance with Curriculum Guidelines and Policies,
- acting as a production manager,
- participating fully in administrative tasks at the Department, Faculty, and College levels,
- maintaining currency in industry expertise

Qualifications / Required Skills

A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree (MFA preferred) or equivalent professional experience

— A minimum of two years of teaching experience

— demonstrated experience in live theatre production

— demonstrated experience in working collaboratively and collegially with team members

— demonstrated experience with supervising student-centred learning

Salary: In accordance with the current Collective Agreement.
