Job Description / Duties

Reporting to the Executive Director, the Production Manager / Technical Director is a hands-on position overseeing all aspects of the technical and production needs for the two venues in the Kay Meek Arts Centre (KMAC). Type of events include shows that are a) Presented and Produced by the KMAC, b) Shows and Events for our Rental Clients and c) Shows and Events with the staff and students of School District 45. On top of the Production Manager / Technical Director duties, it is essential that the successful candidate be an experienced technician capable of handling all aspects of a complex live event and able to work with and direct youth to execute school district events.
Responsibilities:
• Operates, maintains and safeguards the technical assets of the theatre, including supervising the use of lighting, sound, rigging equipment, communications equipment and the maintenance of stage facilities.
• In conjunction with the KMAC team, determine the necessary technical supports and associated costs for all events and performances presented in all venues.
• In conjunction with the Director of Venue Services – maintain and oversee the technical and production schedules in all spaces.
• For KMAC produced shows, act as Production Manager and manage production show budgets and production schedules, ensuring a high level of support to the shows.
• Act as Technician / Operator for shows and presentations throughout the season as required.
• Act as point of contact and authority on KMAC held artists contracts on day of show.
• Design lighting and sound systems for all presentations in the venues. Consult and advise visiting guest designers and touring crews on all technical matters.
• Acts as main contact for the KMAC with the Facilities and Maintenance departments of the SD45. Request, schedule and supervise necessary cleaning and maintenance needs with the SD45 team.
• Responsible for the recruitment, training, scheduling, supervision and payroll of all technical staff.
• Conducts orientation and training to facility renters, students and volunteers in safety, technical characteristics and other areas of facility operations.
• Responsible for the implementation and updating of the Fire/Safety plan with all required parties. Provides training for staff and volunteers to implement the Fire/Safety plan.
• Responsible for the first aid facilities of the building and acts on health and safety requirements.
• Key member of the Kay Meek Arts Centre COVID-19 Mitigation Plan.
• Provide onsite IT support, security and maintenance for office IT equipment and servers. Act as point of contact for IT based support or repairs as needed.
• Works with SD 45 Students, teaching them the basics of stagecraft and supervising them during school events and presentations. Provides technical support to the SD45 music, drama and dance teachers as required for their events at KMAC.
• Performs preventive maintenance and repairs/replacement as required and within budgetary constraints.
• Makes recommendations to the Executive Director regarding capital purchases of theatre equipment.
• Under the direction of the Executive Director, set all production and technical budgets and ensure expenditures stay within budget.

Qualifications / Required Skills

Minimum Requirements / Qualifications:
• 5+ years related production experience as a technician, production manager and/or technical director.
• Related Post-Secondary education or commensurate experience.
• Ability to work flexible and irregular hours, including nights and weekends is required.
• Knowledge of sound, lighting, rigging, stage management and staging for a wide range of performing arts disciplines including theatre, film exhibition, dance, music (of all genres), community and school presentations.
• Experience in the setting and upholding safety standards in all parts of the venue – from stages, backstage, audience and FOH.
• Experience in supervising and scheduling staff.
• Experience in costing, monitoring and staying within budgetary constraints for all presentations.
• Experience working in a team-based collaborative environment with a positive attitude to deliver the highest quality presentations. Proven ability to work with diplomacy and tact with a wide range of stakeholders.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
• Experience working with a range of clients, from professional artists, community partners and youth. Experience teaching youth considered a strong asset.
• Ability to work in a fast paced, multi-tasking environment with a small staff.
• Outstanding organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Proficiency in computer use including Excel, event management software programs, qLab, ETC Eos, and other event-based computer programs. Basic proficiency in computer assisted drafting using Vector Works.
• Ability to work independently with a strict adherence to deadlines.
• Mature personal judgment, exhibiting a high level of professionalism and diplomacy.

Salary: 50,000 - 60,000
