Job Description / Duties
House Stage Hand – John Hirsch Mainstage Theatre
This is a seasonal position that is typically contracted October through May (30-35 weeks). We do six shows as part of our season, plus a short rental season and the Winnipeg Fringe Festival.
Responsibilities
• Assist the Head Carpenter and other departments whenever and wherever necessary.
• With the Head Carpenter, complete all necessary rigging, stage craft and hanging as determined by the individual production.
• Maintain the stage in a clean, orderly and safe condition.
• Assists the Head Carpenter, and/or other departments with regular weekly and seasonal maintenance.
• Direct crews as required.
• Operating the fly system or working on deck during the running of the show.
• Assume the responsibilities and duties of the Head Stage Carpenter as required.
• Operate a follow spot as required, and assist the Head Electrician with focus notes.
• Responsible for attending to wireless microphones on cast, in certain situations
Qualifications / Required Skills
Qualifications
• Thorough knowledge of stage craft, and theatrical rigging.
• Experience in scenery installation and theatrical flying.
• Should be able to read and follow technical and working drawings.
• Must be self-motivated and able to work independently or as part of a team.
• Must be prepared to provide guidance and leadership.
• Have no less than five years’ experience in the theatre industry.
• Have a thorough knowledge of stage craft, theatrical rigging, scenic carpentry, audio, basic stage electrics, and theatrical automated systems.

Salary: Compensation This is an hourly position under an IATSE collective agreement with 40-hour weeks during the scheduled season plus overtime. Hourly: $29.36 for the current season
