The Position: Head of Sound – Tom Hendry Warehouse Theatre
This is a seasonal positon that typically starts in September and runs through May (25-30 weeks). We do four shows as part of our season, one large fundraiser and a month of rentals. Start Date: Fall 2015
Ensure smooth operation of shows & technical rehearsals
On an ongoing basis, maintain, or cause to be maintained, all sound and related equipment in his/her care; such equipment shall be maintained in good working order to avoid any loss of time during set-up, rehearsal or performance.
In co-operation with the Technical Director, maintain an up-to-date inventory of the sound equipment.
Participate in the selection of audio equipment, the planning of long-term improvements and long term maintenance
Under the direction of the Composer/Sound Designer assemble and prepare rehearsal and show files .
Supervise crew whose primary function or duties are sound related
Strong knowledge of current live recording, mixing and editing techniques.
Strong knowledge of the various types and patterns of microphones and the appropriate uses of each.
Degree or certificate in audio electronics or equivalent experience.
Some background in music and musical theatre, ability to read music is an asset.
Experience in creating and operating sound for the theatre.
Firm understanding of the MIDI and SMPTE protocols as applied to the computer/electronic creation and operation of sound for the theatre. Experience with MIDI Show Control is an asset.
Strong knowledge of digital consoles
Understanding of wiring, and patching of sound systems
Ability to troubleshoot and repair cables and connectors
When a show has no designer, the ability to create simple sound scape for scene change music, or simple cues as deemed necessary.
Must be a member of IATSE local 63 in good standing or willing to join
