Job Description / Duties

Reporting to the Technical Director, the Head of Lighting works as an integral member in the Faculty of Animation, Arts and Design (FAAD). The incumbent provides technical expertise to the students in the Visual & Performing Arts Cluster, through assistance and demonstration, in the practical application of course theory as it relates to the safe operation of lighting equipment and methods. The incumbent exercises responsibility for the development, co-ordination, execution, and safe operation of a variety tasks related to providing all of Theatre Sheridan’s lighting requirements as they pertain to activities in the Macdonald Heaslip Hall, Studio Theatre (GB09/10), and Multi-Purpose Instructional Space (H111).

What You’ll be Doing
• Coordinating with Lighting Designers and Directors to determine requirements for Theatre Sheridan productions;
• Administering the budgets and monitoring the expenditure of same for maintenance, repair and ordering of inventory for all lighting needs;
• Producing technical drawings as needed to assist students in preparation for production crew assignments;
• Analyzing design drawings and determining feasibility of proposals based on budgetary impact, available student/worker hours, and suitability of equipment;
• Collaborating with other Theatre Sheridan staff and students, maintaining updated equipment inventory documentation throughout rehearsal and performance process;
• Coordinating use of lighting equipment for MacDonald Heaslip Hall (MHH), Studio Theatre (GB09/10), Multipurpose Space (H111);
• Overseeing work on Theatre Sheridan production crew;
• Coordinating after-hours access with Technical Director;
• Supporting classroom work periods for Technical Production for the Performing Arts Industry, Performing Arts Prep programs;
• Establishing, overseeing, and executing an ongoing maintenance plan of all lighting equipment to ensure proper working order, to meet safety standards, and to align with environmentally sustainable practices;
• Performing other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications / Required Skills

The successful candidate will meet the following requirements:
• Possess a 2-year diploma in Technical Production for Theatre/Lighting, along with 100 course hours completed in working at heights, fall arrest/prevention training and scissor lift operator ticket.
• A minimum of 5 years of professional work experience as Head of Lighting in a theatre or live event venue, along with working knowledge of lighting board operation.
