Job Description / Duties

The Shaw Festival has a full time , year round, employment opportunity for a Head of Audio. This is a fast-paced, dynamic team position working under our Production CBA with IATSE Local 461. It demands skill, commitment, flexibility, ingenuity, creativity and a good sense of humour.

Responsibilities include:

• Reports to the Production Director
• Provides departmental leadership and administration including staffing, scheduling, methods, costing, training, R&D and departmental purchasing and capital planning
• Co-ordinates information with the Technical Directors, Musical Director, Sound Designers, Composers and department heads to ensure the highest production standards
• Provides effective leadership and support to staff and collaboration with other departments.
• Ensures the readiness of all Audio Dept. personnel, supplies, equipment, facilities and maintenance.
• Responsible for meeting technical deadlines and budget expectations while maintaining high production standards
• Develops improved methods to support Shaw Festival production

Qualifications / Required Skills

• Demonstrated operational knowledge of theatre systems and protocols
• Ability to motivate and provide direction and support to staff
• Good written and oral communication skills
• Proven time management and organizational skills with attention to detail
• The incumbent shall have demonstrated ability in all areas of audio, specifically live mix for musicals; show playback; recording and editing; creation of sfx and soundscapes; RF equipment, communication systems including paging; with at least 5 years of experience.
• Proficiency with computer software programs; Microsoft Office, Q-Lab, industry digital platforms, computer networking, routing and troubleshooting.
• A post-secondary education in a technical theatre program or the equivalent would be considered an asset

Salary: Current hourly rate as per the Production CBA: $36.26 + benefits with a 40-hour weekly guarantee
