•The safe efficient and precise implementation of all lighting requirements which fall under the jurisdiction of Theatre Arts department,
•The operation and maintenance of the production lighting systems, electrical shop and related adjacent areas,
•Advising and assisting the Associate Director, Production in developing and implementing specific training programs regarding the above and providing instruction.
•Developing and maintaining The Banff Cenre as a leading international site for cultural development and artistic continuing education
•Set up, running and strike, of all lighting elements necessary for production by the Theatre Arts department.
•Administration of the electrics department, including direction of assigned crews, with attention to safety procedures and within the supplied frameworks of budget, staffing, equipment, space and time
•Act as a strong communication link with the Technical Director, lighting designer, head stage carpenter, head of sound, and stage management in order to best bring together the elements of technical production, artistic requirements and training related needs.
•Assist the Technical Director in monitoring and reviewing support systems and mechanisms appropriate to the successful operation of the Theatre Arts.
•Execute lighting designs as provided by the lighting designer including all necessary paperwork and ensuring that the artistic needs of the lighting design are meet at a professional standard of excellence.
•Review in consultation with the designer and Technical Director the lighting designs for each production and generate or adjust drawings as necessary
•Direct, instruct and facilitate the instruction of resident apprentice(s), and theatre craft participants in the theories and practice of theatre electrics including but not limited to terms and formulas, hand and power tools, lighting and electrical materials, hardware, lighting design and other training activities.
•Minimum of 12 + consecutive full time years as a working Lighting Technician in a professional Theatre, Opera or Dance company
•Experience training/teaching apprentices is benefitial
•Must have a good understanding and application of safe work pratices in a Theatre environment
•Candidates offered a position with the Centre, in this capacity, will be required to obtain a criminal record check through the local R.C.M.P. detachment, verifying a clear record before a final job offer can be made.
