Job Description / Duties
Overview
Nightwood Theatre and Tapestry Opera are seeking a Director of Facility and Production to support their deep passion for the performing arts and facility stewardship. The successful candidate will be responsible for the devising and implementation of seasonal facility calendars, production methodologies, and technical executions.
Anticipated Start Date: January 13 - 24 2025, depending on final substantial completion date

You are organized, with strong collaboration and interpersonal skills, and are motivated to produce and problem-solve. This is a brand-new venue opening in early 2025, and the right person for this role will be interested in building, developing, and collaborating on the culture in our new space. There will be many unknowns that we will figure out together, and there is a great opportunity to shape the experience of artists, patrons, and community members.
The Position
-Manages a team of contract technicians in a non-union environment, including hiring, training, professional development of team-members.
-Handles production and facility purchases, in line with budgets.
-Act as the final approval of designs to be implemented in the space.
-Liaise and supervise the concepts and workflow regarding the construction and installation of scenic elements.
-Supervises all production elements in the theatre space, and throughout the building
-Manages the effective flow of information from the Artistic Director and management team to the production department.
-Oversees venue and production health and safety policy, training, and procedures. Ensures venues and production designs comply with appropriate regulations. Fosters a culture of safety.
-Provides technical support to guest artists and folks developing shows
-Works closely with the company leadership (example: Artistic Director and the Managing Director) to supervise building operations; oversee maintenance, renovations, and capital purchases.
-Oversees facility mechanical and electrical systems to ensure safe and efficient working order. Perform some basic maintenance, and liaise with service providers on specialized maintenance as required.
-Potential to act as Production Manager for each of the Company’s mainstage productions (at an additional remuneration rate).
Major Responsibilities
-In consultation with the Company Leadership (example: Artistic Director and the Managing Director), establish production and season schedules and lead production meetings.
-With the Company Leadership develop and manage facility budgets and overall program budget.
-Booking crew for productions, both internal and external rentals.
-Responsible for the approval and technical coordination for productions including costing, implementation, and breakdown of designs.
-Responsible for on-site supervision of all production activities (this task may be shared with other staff).
-Supervise technicians in the areas of Theatre Production and Operations.
-With the Company Leadership, recommend, purchase, and ensure safe implementation of equipment in the theatre and auxiliary spaces.
-Purchase general supplies and equipment for ongoing operations.
-Responsible for Facility management, including inventory and equipment maintenance, and organization of theatre and auxiliary spaces.
-Responsible for Venue management for rentals, in collaboration with Company Leadership.
-Provide Audio-visual support: setting up of equipment for events in the theatre.
-Add Collect and respond to external rental inquiries.
-Collaborate with marketing to procure potential rental inquiries.
-Act as Production Manager for 2 events or shows in the venue
Qualifications / Required Skills
-3-5 years minimum experience in Production Management or -Technical Direction, including a strong understanding of:
-Lighting, sound, and video systems
-AutoCAD
-Theatre Health and Safety
-Familiarity with day-to-day venue operations of a theatre facility.
-Strong communication/leadership qualities, including notable experience leading teams in a production environment.
-The successful candidate must be comfortable working in a small team environment and be committed to enthusiastically solving problems as a team.
-Evening/weekend/holiday hours, as required by production schedules/events.
-Design skills would be an asset.
-Working At Heights Certification.

Additional Information
This is a full-time position working 40 hours per week on average. Heavier weeks are offset by time in lieu. There will be requirements to work flextime with evening and weekend work, as the position demands.
Please note: 877 Yonge Street will not operate as a full-time performance venue, with an anticipated minimum of 50% - 75% of the time dedicated to development and rehearsal periods.
Also included: 3 weeks vacation, plus 1 week paid office closure. Employer-paid medical and dental benefits included after 3-month probationary period. Work laptop, alongside a cell phone stipend for the use of a personal device.
This position requires occasional heavy lifting, working at heights, and in some locations that are not accessible by users of mobility aids. For more information about specific duties, please reach out to us.
