Qualifications / Required Skills

The successful candidate must have: 

  • a BA in a relevant discipline and extensive professional experience, or the equivalent combination of education and professional experience in Technical Theatre; 
  • proven supervisory skills in a theatre production environment; 
  • computer skills including Word, Excel and PowerPoint; 
  • advanced computer skills including CAD, digital audio processing and editing software, with knowledge of video editing, server, and network applications;
  • proven ability to troubleshoot/problem-solve under time pressure; 
  • ability to handle multiple demands and priorities; 
  • well developed interpersonal skills.
  • Instruction of crew experience is required; teaching experience is preferred.
  • Certificates/training in First Aid, Firearms, and Pyrotechnics are required.

The Department of Drama and Speech Communication at the University of Waterloo invites applications for a continuing, 10-month per year position as Director of Technical Theatre beginning September 1, 2010.   

Based in a liberal arts faculty that aspires to high national and international standards, the Drama program provides a balance of courses in theatre/performance studies and theatre practice. 

Teaching areas include: Dramatic Literature, Theatre History, Theatre Criticism, Performance Theory, Dramaturgy, Theatre and the New Media, Acting, Directing, Designing, and Stagecraft. The Department presents 3-4 mainstage productions annually, in addition to several student-initiated projects.
