Job Description / Duties

The Costume and Production Coordinator will support a two-production season (one per semester) and other production courses in the Theatre Studies curriculum as required. Working with the Production faculty and Technical Coordinator, this position will work collaboratively as a team to oversee the production aspects of the theatre creation process. This position will be responsible for the supervision of student crews working on costumes in productions sponsored by the program in Theatre Studies and the management of productions for the program.

This position supports the theatre program by contributing with the coordination of theatre productions, supervising students within the costume shop to produce designs and props for theatre productions, and providing instruction on a variety of theatre skills (e.g. costume construction, house management, stage management, etc.), as well as other administrative duties associated with the theatre program. This position is responsible for the day-to-day coordination of the theatre costume shop, including upkeep of equipment and maintenance of the costume collection and supplies. Production coordination includes the development of timelines and goals for the production process to ensure completion for rehearsals and performances, scheduling of production meetings, tracking expenses in accordance with the production budget, and maintaining good communication between student crews, faculty, and other theatre staff.

Qualifications / Required Skills

Requirements of this position include:

  • Two-year community college in in the performing arts or related and two (2) years’ previous experience in theatre productions (three years’ experience preferred), or an equivalent combination of education and experience;
  • Experience supervising a costume shop in an academic or professional theatre, including developing production plans and schedules, and supervising students or professional productions screws;
  • Proven experience producing accurate show costing in a theatrical environment;
  • Knowledge of costume history, design, and contemporary practices;
  • Proficiency using Microsoft Office 365 and digital art programs (e.g. Adobe Creative Suite or Affinity Suite);
  • Proven ability to provide leadership within a small working group and act as an effective team member of a large and diverse organization;
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills;
  • Ability to interface with coworkers, students, and University stakeholders in an equitable and accessible manner to contribute to a culture of inclusion and respect;
  • Excellent personal judgment, organizational skills, and problem-solving ability in order to multitask and prioritize duties while dealing with interruptions and competing deadlines.

Preferred Skills of this position include:

  • Applied knowledge and understanding of current theatre production and technical practices (e.g., sound, lighting, projection, set and prop construction, costume creation, etc.);
  • Stage management experience;
  • Digital rendering skills;
  • Prior university or college teaching or instruction experience considered an asset.

Additional Information

This is a one year posting that is renewable.

Salary: Classification USW, Local 4120 Salary Band 5 Normal Hiring Range $25.66 - $28.67 per hour
