Job Description / Duties

POSITION TITLE: Assistant Technical Director
STATUS: Full time, fixed term, 40 hours per week
REPORTS TO: Technical Director
START DATE: Immediate

Crow’s Theatre is seeking candidates for the position of Assistant Technical Director. This is a full-time, fixed term position within the Production Department, until December 31, 2021, with opportunity for contract renewal.

POSITION SUMMARY
The Assistant Technical Director (ATD) is a member of the Production Department and reports to the Technical Director. The ATD is responsible for the technical elements, schedules, and budgets of Crow’s Theatre’s productions and presentations, as well as external clientele and rentals. The ATD supervises House Technicians and, in collaboration with the Technical Director, is responsible for the daily operation of the Production Department and the productions, presentations, and related activities of Crow’s Theatre, as well as being direct liaison to external groups for immediate support for them.

KEY RELATIONSHIPS

• Reports to the Technical Director
• Other members of the Production Department
• Other Crow’s Theatre departments
• The creative and production teams of productions and presentations
• External organizations such as renters, suppliers, etc.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

• Operate digital streaming equipment in tandem with Crows internal staff’s system designs, as well as external events clientele
• Acts as a liaison with external stakeholders to expedite needs regarding their events and productions.
• Acts as a liaison with contracted designers, employees, and production shops so production specific information is disseminated properly and efficiently.
• Supervises staff in all technical areas and venues, as needed
• Provide support and maintenance to the facility and its upkeep, including scheduling HVAC service calls, communication with cleaning support staff, design and creation of elements to improve efficiency of storage spaces, and monitoring and executing on an ever changing facility repair document.
• Communicates with designers, directors, and stage management as necessary for troubleshooting and production continuity, as needed
• Supervise the successful and timely load in and out of productions and presentations at Crow’s Theatre’s venues, as needed
• Creates and maintains technical documentation, CAD drawings, and other records as necessary for each production or presentation, as needed
• Ensures compliance with Occupational Health and Safety regulations within areas under the supervision of the Production Department
• Attend consultation meetings with event coordinator to determine adequate staffing and technical needs for all events
• Submitting to the Technical Director to review and determine the technical requirements for various events and performances, including technical staffing, equipment, seating and cost estimates
• Collaborate in the creation of budgets for technical areas in consultation with the Technical Director
• Develop systems and policies to improve efficiencies and processes under the supervision of the Technical Director, as needed
• Assist with show and event production settlements in a timely manner
• Provide manager-on-duty support during festivals, events and shows, as required

OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES

• Evening and weekend work is required for this position
• Liaise and work with the Rental and Partner Companies to fulfill their technical needs
• Create and modify CAD drawings
• Performs other duties as assigned by the Technical Director
• May require occasional travel to supervise technical install of tours

QUALIFICATIONS

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Minimum of two years professional experience in a theatre environment
• One year professional experience supervising in a venue preferred
• Familiarity with facility maintenance
• Thorough knowledge of professional of lighting and sound consoles
• Knowledge and practical experience of carpentry
• Experience with Dante and system networks
• Intermediate knowledge of video production hardware.
• Intermediate knowledge of streaming software and hardware
• Understanding on how to assess and troubleshoot streaming issues
• Familiarity with Blackmagic Design Software and hardware
• Competency in both Mac OSX and Window 10 operating systems
• Knowledge and practical experience using AutoCAD.
• Knowledge and practical experience using Microsoft Office
• Working knowledge of current safety standards and the implementation of same
• Experience with a variety of types of live performance including theatre, dance, and music
• Ability to read and produce technical drawings and schematics, including scenic construction designs
• Strong personnel, scheduling, and budgetary management skills
• Excellent organizational skills with the ability to work on multiple projects with tight deadlines and a positive attitude while working under pressure
• Strong interpersonal skills, integrity, high energy, creativity, a collaborative spirit, and the cultural sensitivity needed to work effectively in a diverse environment of artists, producers, creative, and management teams
• Ability to take technical/production leadership of productions as needed to support Technical Director
• Collaborative and flexible working style to adapt to team/production needs

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

• Full-time, fixed term, 40 hours per week, 37 weeks, April 2021 – December 2021
• Salary range 30,000 – 35,000
