Job Description / Duties

The event requires the leadership of a strong event team to execute all aspects of the event. The Assistant Technical Director (ATD) will support the Technical Director and Production Manager in the execution of technical aspects of the event, including generating documentation and drawings for various portions of the event, ordering equipment, and assisting with the build, installation and maintenance of the event wherever needed. The ATD reports to the Technical Director.

Key Accountability:

- Generate documentation, including but not limited to maps, inventories, schedules for the site and each haunt as required.
- Maintain a safe working environment in all production areas by following all company processes
- Collaborate with park personnel as well as Set Design & Construction Contractor regarding safety hazards and risk management.
- Ensure that haunt build teams have all the materials and equipment they require and offer creative solutions to issues as they arise.
- Assist in purchasing materials as needed and directed.
- Maintain communication with the rest of the production team, including technical crew and Scare Managers.
- The ATD notifies the Technical Director of concerns and issues as they arise
- The ATD is encouraged to make creative recommendations to the Technical Director but may not alter the services as described by Fort Edmonton Park.

Responsibilities:

- Ensure Dark Asset inventories are up to date and maintained as required.
- Assist in the conception and planning of any required Audio, Lighting, Video and other Special Effects
- Research, order and coordinate purchases, rentals and deliveries.
- Assist in the setup and installation of the haunts and site
- Supervises and directs crew where required and in the absence of the Technical Director
- Ensure efficient event execution and support the event team where and when required.
- Follows the chain of command and safety procedures during an emergency
- Reports any concerns to the Technical Director or Safety / Security Officers.
- Is accessible on radio and responsive to radio calls.
- Participate in the disassembly and storage of event material and props.
- Coordinate pickup and return of rental equipment to vendors as required
- Update drawings and documentation to reflect changes that were required during the event.

Qualifications / Required Skills

- Three years experience in a technical role in a theatrical, film, or festival setting
- Maintain a positive attitude, especially while working under pressure
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Excellent organizational skills with the ability to work on multiple projects with tight deadlines
- Ability to lead and supervise a crew
- Ability to read and produce technical drawings in Vectorworks is an asset.
- Knowledge of theatrical lighting, audio, video and special effects.
- Knowledge of pneumatics is an asset.
- Confident in troubleshooting, creative problem solving, and research
- Self-motivated and able to work effectively independently, and takes direction well
- Ability to lift 50 lbs
- Holds a valid class 5 driver's license

Additional Information

Contract Dates:
August 6 - September 1: Prep: 24 - 32 hours per week

September 3 - September 22: Prep and Install: up to 40 hours per week; Typical hours of work will be Monday to Friday, 9:00am to 5:00pm

September 23 - October 3: Install and Rehearsals: up to 60 hours per week. Some evenings and weekends will be required.

October 4, 5, 10, 11, 12, 17, 18, 19, 24, 25, 26, 31, Nov 1, 2: Show Calls: 4pm - Midnight

November 4 - November 15: Up to 40 hours per week; Typical hours of work will be Monday to Friday, 9:00am to 5:00pm

Salary: $27 - $32 per hour commensurate on skill and experience.
