Job Description / Duties

The TSO seeks a dynamic individual interested in orchestra operations with a background in live performance production. This position reports to the Production Manager.

● Act as primary production contact to manage certain series/weeks/projects as assigned by Production Manager
● In rotation with the Production Manager (PM), work production duty for various TSO services
● Manage all small group run outs (chamber orchestra), “Members of the TSO” services, and special events including Development/Marketing events where ensembles perform at Roy Thomson Hall (RTH) or offsite
● Assist PM on all orchestra run outs and tours
● Assist PM on any festivals/large projects, act as project lead as assigned
● Manage all production for the Toronto Symphony Youth Orchestra (TSYO), act as stage manager for concerts & events, work closely with the TSYO Manager
● Manage instrument loans/rentals
● Under the direction of the Production Manager, prepare budgets, requests for quotes, and input production estimates for potential TSO projects by updating a pro forma
● Manage piano tuning, instrument maintenance, and percussion rental schedule
● Be responsible for standard setup of artist dressing rooms (e.g., water, towels), arrange coffee & tea service when necessary, and ensure that all backstage needs are met as per artist riders
● Work with the Operations and Artistic departments to liaise with artists/conductors on upcoming concerts and update information in the database
● Other duties as assigned

Qualifications / Required Skills

● Results-oriented professional with at least three years experience in production/stage management in a live performance environment
● Strong interpersonal skills/people management
● University degree/college certificate in theatre production, or equivalent
● Technical background in audio, video, lighting
● Experience managing in a unionized environment
● Strong attention to detail
● Able to work in a fast-paced team environment
● Excellent Information Technology skills including Word and Excel, databases, some computer aided drafting an asset, and a willingness to learn new programs, particularly OPAS (Orchestra Planning and Administration System)
● Ability to respond calmly to urgent situations inherent in the performing arts
● Score reading/musical knowledge an asset
● Valid passport and driver's license
