Job Description / Duties

MacEwan University is seeking an individual for a full-time continuing opportunity as Theatre Technician with the Faculty of Fine Arts and Communications.

The Theatre Technician maintains performance spaces and equipment ready for users; monitors user activities; and provides technical services in support of internal and external user productions as required in lighting, sound, rigging, etc. The Theatre Technician is accountable for the provision of technical support for performance spaces, ensuring that spaces operate safely and in the manner intended; the Theatre Technician is also responsible for the maintenance of performance spaces.

Duties include but are not limited to:

Operating computerized lighting equipment and moving lights; mixing live sound on a digital sound console; using Protools; and reading and producing technical drawings using AutoCAD, VectorWorks, or comparable software.
Enforcing a safe, effective stage and shop and ensuring equipment maintenance.
Ensuring student, guest client, and audience safety by ensuring that health and safety legislation as well as general shop and stage guidelines are followed.
Monitoring and mentoring students completing FFAC coursework.

Qualifications / Required Skills

Skills

The successful candidate will have:

Strong organizational, interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills .
The ability to pay close attention to detail.
The ability to read and produce technical drawings using AutoCAD, VectorWorks, or comparable software.
Experience using AVID series consoles, ETC EOS family console software, DANTE, and recording studio operation.
Previous experience mentoring technicians would be an asset.

Qualifications

Minimum two-year diploma in Technical Theatre or a related field.
Current standard First Aid, including CPR and AED.
Minimum three years of technical theatre experience.
Equivalences may be considered.

Salary: MSA Band E (Steps 1-8): $28.81 - $41.89 per hour
