Job Description / Duties

JOB SUMMARY:
This is a management-level position reporting to the Artistic Director. The Producer is responsible for all artistic contract negotiations throughout the Arts Club, also working closely alongside production management to help maintain and meet budget expectations and assist with the co-ordination of our Stage Management Teams.

The Producer reports to the Artistic Director and is responsible for artistic contract negotiation at many levels (artists, licensors, co-producing and presenting organizations). The Producer collaborates on the creation of all production budgets and is responsible for management of the budget for Artistic Fees and Artistic Contingency. This role is responsible for connecting Directors to Intimacy Directors and Fight Directors. This role also manages our Stage Management teams. It is a role that balances artistic needs with the financial, while problem-solving and looking for creative ways around any issues that might pop up.

Come join our fun, small, tight-knit team of four, made up of Artistic Director (Ashlie Corcoran), Company Manager (Michelle Thorne), New Works & Professional Engagement (Stephen Drover), and Artistic Coordinator (Jocelyn Tsui). This position will report directly to Ashlie Corcoran and will work closely with Director of Production, Ace Martens.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Makes offers to artists working at the Arts Club, specifically: Actors, Directors, Designers, Fight Directors, Chorographers, Dialect Coaches, Intimacy Directors, Assistant Directors, Cultural Consultants.

• Communicates regarding needs/roles/responsibilities pre-contract with: Directors, Fight Directors, Choreographers, Dialect Coaches, Intimacy Directors, Assistant Directors, Cultural Consultants.

• Applies for and negotiates licensing and rights for plays and oversees royalty payments.

• Negotiates, budgets and creates contracts for all co-productions and presentations.

• Manages the budget for artist fees.

• Collaborates on production budget creation.

• Pre-rehearsal understudy oversight.
-Advises directors on the CTA around the different kinds of understudies.
-Meets with the creative team to outline responsibilities and process.
-Meets with the understudies early in rehearsal to go over the process and expectations at the ACTC.

-Responds to needs of show reports, production meetings.

-Other sundry administrative duties (such as calculating annual CAEA bond payment, garnering work permits for out of country artists)

Qualifications / Required Skills

SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES:
• Passion for theatre, eye for detail, ability to meet deadlines, excellent time management, ability to work under pressure, self-starter who is organized and thrives in a team environment.

• A proactive person who is comfortable taking initiative, leading self-guided work, and who thrives working as part of a team.

• Feeling comfortable engaging with artists and community members in-person at events, shows, auditions, panels, etc.

• Good with words, but also loves numbers.

• Empathetic and caring.

• Good under pressured situations.

• Deep commitment to improving how we engage with and contract artists, and an ability to learn and shift with industry standards.

• Excellent time-management skills.

• Keen attention to detail.

QUALIFICATIONS:
• Strong arts administrator with existing knowledge and practise.

• In-depth knowledge and understanding of Canadian theatre unions & affiliations especially CAEA, PACT, and VMA.

• Understanding of professional theatre practices.

• Deep commitment to equity, inclusion, and accessibility as well as a deep commitment to creating safer spaces.

• Experience with Word, Excel, Adobe, Outlook, & Google Drive.

Additional Information

Employment Type: Permanent Full-time position (40 hrs. per week) *

*Flexible work hours outside of core hours (which are 10am-3pm, Monday-Friday). Some evenings/weekends required. Ability to work from home 16 hours a week, if conducive with work activities.

Expected Start Date: October 2023 / As soon as possible
