Job Description / Duties

General:
• Maintain or improve the high quality of production values on the Chemainus Theatre stage and livestreamed performances.
• Fulfill all responsibilities in a manner consistent with the Chemainus Theatre Festival’s mission statement, policies and procedures.
• Monitor own work schedule and hours in consultation with the Technical Director & Production Manager.
• Supervise with casual production personnel during load-ins, tech periods, and performances in an inclusive, friendly, and supportive manner.

Production Cycles:
• Work to ensure that the artistic vision of the artistic team is realized on stage.
• As production appropriate, assist in production-specific projects.
• Attend rehearsals, production meetings as well as other company meetings that require production or technical input, as required.
• Interface with production audio designers to determine audio material needs as per production deadlines and do primary costing and possibly special effects, working closely with the Technical Director and Production Manager to ensure accuracy and control costs.
• Maintain and catalogue expendables stock including, but not limited to, microphones, speakers and assorted ancillary equipment, and order new and replacement audio equipment in consultation with the Technical Director and Production Manager.
• Orient new casual crew, in partnership with the Technical Director.
• Act as both a crew member, if required, and an audio crew chief in production set-up, tech, performances and strike. This includes scheduling breaks as appropriate.
• Program and operate audio board, sound computer and all other machinery and/or equipment as required for each production.
• Operate all light and sound equipment efficiently and effectively for performances.
• Be the point of first contact for production specific maintenance notes throughout the performance period.
• Annually: maintain, repair and service in-house audio equipment.
• As needed: maintain, repair and service technical equipment, or advise Technical Director and/or Production Manager on equipment repairs that need to be done out-of-house.
• Be responsible, as appropriate and in consultation with the Production Manager and Technical Director, for the execution of the production requirements of theatre rentals.

Qualifications / Required Skills

What we’re looking for:
• Demonstrable experience in professional theatre, preferably in an audio specific role.
• Thorough grounding and demonstrated abilities in many aspects of stagecraft.
• High proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and other applicable sound recording, editing, and playback software (QLAB, etc).
• Communication and time management abilities and familiarity with schedules in a theatrical setting.
