Job Description / Duties

Reporting to the Production Manager, the Head of Properties works as an integral member in the Faculty of Animation, Arts and Design (FAAD). The incumbent provides technical expertise to the students of Technical Production for Theatre & Live Events Program, through assistance and demonstration, in the practical application of course theory as it relates to the safe operation of carpentry, sewing, sculpting, painting, 3D printing and general prop building equipment and methods.
The incumbent plans, implements and directs a variety of tasks related to the efficient construction and use of all props for Technical Production for Theatre & Live Events activities. This includes building and sourcing props for Theatre Sheridan activities, supporting some course work in the Musical Theatre Performance Program and Performing Arts Prep Program, and coordinating props rentals available to all students.

What You’ll be Doing
• Coordinating with production designers and directors to determine prop requirements for Theatre Sheridan productions.
• Analyzing design drawings and determining feasibility of proposals based on budgetary impact, available student/worker hours, and suitability of materials and processes.
• Administering the budgets and monitoring the expenditure of same for maintenance, repair and ordering of inventory for all props needs.
• Overseeing work on Theatre Sheridan production crew, including hands-on support during design, build, running crew processes.
• Supporting classroom work periods for Technical Production for the Performing Arts Industry, Performing Arts Prep programs.
• Maintaining, evaluating, and upgrading Prop Shop facilities and equipment in consultation with other Sheridan staff.
• Collaborating with Props Buyer to source appropriate props and materials for all Theatre Sheridan activities.
• Performing other related duties as assigned.

The successful candidate will also meet the following requirements:

• The successful candidate must possess a 2-year diploma in Technical Theatre Production, or a related field, along with 5 years of theatrical prop experience, including 3 years of experience as a Head of a Prop Shop (Equivalency will be considered).
• The candidate must have the ability to work well with students and work well as part of a team in a multi-faceted, fast paced, high pressure work environment.
• Strong problem-solving skills are necessary.
• Experience in an educational environment will be considered an asset.

Campus Location: Trafalgar (may be assigned activities at any Sheridan campus). This position is currently working on-site.
