Job Description / Duties

Duties will include, but are not limited to:
- Develops patterns and cuts costumes based on costume renderings, research and instruction of the Costume Designer.
- Research the period, style, and techniques required to achieve the Designer’s concept.
- Create patterns, either by draping or flat pattern making for specific actors .
- Determine the yardage for fabric and trims.
- Responsible for cutting all fabric including interlinings, facings, linings, plackets, etc.
-Preparing and assigning work, instructing stitchers in proper construction methods and techniques, and assisting in developing production schedules in consultation with the Head of Wardrobe.
- Attends and participates in fitting the costumes to the actors, corrects patterns and alter costume as necessary.
-Supervises alterations.
-May be involved in costume construction as necessary as assigned by Head of Wardrobe.

Qualifications / Required Skills

Specific skills will include, but are not limited to:
- Excellent knowledge and experience in costume construction techniques (flat pattern making and draping)
- Proven knowledge and experience in both men’s and women’s tailoring techniques
- Understanding of period shape and how to adapt it to theatrical costumes
- Working knowledge of costume history, fabric types and uses
- Proficient in hand-sewing, and the use of industrial sewing machines
- Communicates well and is creative and resourceful in problem solving
- Demonstrate ability to work as part of a team and under your own initiative
- Take direction and manage time effectively with minimal supervision
- Minimum of 2 years' experience as Cutter in a professional theatre company or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience and 4 years’ experience in costume construction

Additional Information

This is an hourly agreement on a seasonal contract, for the build of the first two main stage plays of the 2019/2020 season, Chicago and Cinderella (work available from August 7th - November 28th). Exact schedule of anticipated work dates and weeks has been prepared and is available upon request. The position is governed by the terms outlined in a collective agreement negotiated between Globe Theatre and IATSE 295, however it is not required that the successful applicant already be a member of IATSE.

Salary: $20.58/hr + travel
