The Genesis of the Counterweight Rigging System in Theatre

Since the original publication of 'Nobody Looks Up ..." I have been engaged in further historic research. A treasure trove of technical drawings from the mid-19th century had been uncovered. The Brandt Family archives located at the Free University of Berlin contains over 1,000 technical drawings. These drawings reveal the history of the counterweight system before the first true system in 1888.

In a career that spans over 50 years, Rick has worked as technical director, as set, lighting and costume designer, as university lecturer, inventor, historian and rigging consultant. As historian, he has rewritten the history of the counterweight rigging system with irrefutable evidence of its origins.
