PYROTECHNIC SPECIAL EFFECTS SAFETY AND LEGAL AWARENESS COURSE
This one-day course is a companion to the Pyrotechnics Special Effects Manual and serves to promote the safe use of all pyrotechnics and special-purpose effects used in the entertainment, performing arts, television and film industries. Completion of the Pyrotechnics Special Effects Safety and Legal Awareness Course is mandatory prior to certification.

SCULPTING WITH FOSSHAPE
In this workshop we will explore different ways to “sculpt” with FOSSHAPE using various forms and methods of applying heat. We will look at different approaches to molding and modelling with FOSSHAPE and participants will have the opportunity to create a variety of samples using both medium and heavy weight FOSSHAPE. Both props makers and costumers will find this workshop applicable. FOSSHAPE can be used to create hats and masks, as well as numerous costume and props components. You are only limited by your imagination! Participants can expect to leave with a variety of samples as reference for further exploration of this wonderful product.

Eureka! The Genesis of the Lighting Console
- Whether you love or hate your console, its layout is no accident. Join Robert Bell and Gary Douglas, who've created consoles for several different manufacturers, as they discuss the steps from conception to prototyping to market release and beyond. With specific reference to the Cognito by Pathway, they'll discuss how engineering, marketing, cost pressure and software development (to name only a few) influence the final results, with the occasional buyout along the way. Followed by LED Colour Control: Not as Simple as Changing a Gel - Has the widespread adoption of colour-changing LED lights led to a compromise in how we light shows? Robert Bell discusses the capabilities and complexities of LED fixtures, and offers some approaches for taming this new technology. - Level: Intermediate Caucus: Lighting
Rosco Goop and Splash Workshop - Playing with Texture and Paint
(Day 1, with Day 2 continuing on Saturday all day. Please note that you must register for both days) - An intensive hands on opportunity to get familiar by "getting dirty" with Rosco paint and coating products will be lead by union scenic artist/Rosco Paint Product Manager, Jenny Knott. Participants will create a variety of textured surfaces using Foamcoat, Flexcoat, Flexbond and CrystalGel. There will be a unique project for the participants to create using some of the techniques and products they had an opportunity to sample on the first day. Creativity and thinking outside the box encouraged. Bring your wild side and sling some goop and paint with Jenny.

Audio, Video, and Lighting Show Control & Design with Philip Cimolai and Wlad Woyno
- Our session will use Theatre Junction's 2012 work "Sometime Between Now and When the Sun Goes Supernova" as a case study to look at what is possible when using Q Lab to control all aspects of audio, video and lighting production through distributed midi triggering. We will focus on why we made the choices we did and what the results were, the systems we used, and their advantages and disadvantages.

- Electricity basics for the stage with Art Wanuch (this is a 3-hour session)
- ETCP Updates and Behind the Scene Information with Monique Corbeil - Come and learn what you should know about the Entertainment Technician Certification Program (ETCP) for Entertainment Electrician, Arena Riggers and Theatre Riggers, as well as information on ESTA'S Behind the Scene program. Level: General Caucus: Health & Safety, Lighting, Management, On-Deck & Rigging
- LED's & Micro Controller magic with Robyn Ayles & Angela Dale - In this session Robyn and Angela will share the trials, tribulations and triumphs of their adventures with LED’s and Micro Controllers. Beginning with the 100th anniversary celebration of the Calgary Stampede Grandstand show in 2012, they will share the approach, construction and outcome of a number of projects that incorporate programmable LED’s. Actual projects will be displayed for viewing. Level: General Caucus: Wardrobe

- My Summer Vacations with John Madill - A look at some surprises found in 18th and 19th century theatres and their holdings, and a couple of words about visiting facilities and archives. I found out that at many of these sites the curatorial staff may still have no idea of the workings or applications of their holdings and that current printed illustrations in history books still blur important details. Unfortunately sometimes today's texts and web pages merely copy earlier published mistakes or do not reflect the current (lets say the last 20-30 years?) situation. - Technology vs. Craftsmanship; maintaining traditional skills in a digital world moderator Robert Vernon - This session is a moderated panel discussion. As the use of computers, CAD, and computer aided manufacturing becomes increasing prevalent in theatre production what becomes of the traditional skills of theatre? Is technology usurping craftsmanship? With creativity becoming the purview of the computer tech where do we draw the line between art and technology? Is there still a need for the traditional craft skills in theatre? How do we maintain those skills? How do we keep the existing craftspeople engaged in a meaningful way in the process? How do we entice new theatre professionals to build their own skills in the traditional crafts of theatre production? Level: General Caucus: All
