Job Description / Duties

Perchance Theatre seeks an Assistant Stage Manager to join us. The ideal candidate will be a proactive, talented, flexible, individual with a deep love of making theatre magic, especially in unique environments.

Working closely with, the Director and Stage Management team, the successful candidate will be integral to the smooth rollout of the 2024 summer repertory season. Perchance places high value on mentoring as part of its company mandate and welcomes anyone with a passion for outdoor theatre production to apply to join our team.

RESPONSIBILITIES
>Acting as the assistant stage manager for assigned productions during the 2024 season (involves attending rehearsals in support of the Stage Management team, managing backstage track during performances, assisting the >Stage Management team and performers as needed, tracking props and costumes, creating running paperwork, working with Production Assistants, etc.)
>Striking and resetting scenic and technical equipment between performances, assisting with changeovers.
>Laundering costume items.
>Any other duties assigned by the Management team.​

ADDITIONAL SHARED DUTIES BY MEMBERS OF THE PRODUCTION TEAM
>Directing patrons to parking (if required).
>Ushering patrons and distributing programs (if required).

Qualifications / Required Skills

>Experience in theatre production.
>Excellent organizational skills.
>Good communication skills.
>Ability to work well in a team.
>Ability to take direction well.
>Ability to lift 50 pounds
>Working at heights
>Comfort working on both A frame and Extension ladders
>Ability to remain calm, positive and focused in a high pressure and deadline based environment.
>First aid training is considered an asset.

This role will require standard backstage production work in an outdoor setting, and some physical labour may be involved. This could include, but is not limited to, climbing ladders, lifting small set pieces, participating in set changeovers, etc.

Additional Information

​DURATION: 13-14 weeks TBD - Anticipated Start Date: last week of May

Salary: $650.00 - $759.00 weekly

Our theatre hires following the DOT Tier One from CAEA. Our work is created with a focus on the outdoor environment and live creation and as such we have extremely basic lighting, and do mostly live sound/music scapes. Our technical needs focus more on set and props and always creating with an eye to responsible environmental practices. Where possible we reuse and recycle existing theatre elements to minimize our impact.
