The entertainment industry has lost a giant.
Ron Foley passed away on All Saints Day, Friday 1 November 2024, after a courageous year-long hard-fought battle with esophageal cancer.
Starting his theatrical journey in the St. Catharine Collegiate drama club, Ron would go on to study theatre at York University.
Ron would then begin his career with Strand Lighting Canada as a service technician and became “the Man from Strand” who colleagues and clients alike would recognize as an extremely talented professional who could overcome any issue with enormous skill.
In 1985 he forged on to a new adventure and opened Scenework with his partner, Karen Moore, and was at the helm of the company steering with a passion from coast to coast.
Over the years projects included the Niagara Falls Illumination Enhancement Team, York University Accolade Project, Ripley’s Aquarium, River Run Centre, The Shopping Channel, House of Assembly in St. John’s NL and The Belfry Theatre in Victoria, just to name a few.
His passion for his community was another admirable trait Ron was often applauded for. He became President of the Howitt Park Association and lead a dedicated group who fought to, and succeeded in, preserving their neighbourhood in many ways.
Ron will continue to be remembered as a person who would always lend a helping hand to anyone in need and be a constant source of love and support for his family, friends, community and industry.
To carry on his legacy are his partner Karen Moore, their daughter Meaghan, his brother Jack Foley (Sandy), sister Shirley Vezina (John), brother Bruce Foley (Pat), sister Sharon Foley-Reilly (Nolan), sister Pat Foley and sister-in-law Sandra Moore (Colin Hay).
A celebration of his life will be held in the spring of 2025. Details will be announced at a later date.
