Job Description / Duties

The duties of the Head of Properties shall include, but not be limited to the co-ordination of the Props Department, the procurement and creation of all properties, furniture, set decoration, and lighting fixtures. The Head of Properties is responsible for the disbursement of assigned budgets and delegation of work required for the efficient operation of the Department. They shall research the historical period of said props; repair and return props to original condition; coordinate all necessary permits to convey restricted weapons; co-ordinate with the Costume Department the required accessories. They will plan and manage pack, load in, load out, and onstage props notes.

Employer Profile

Pacific Opera Victoria is currently accepting applications for the nine following seasonal positions for the 2018/2019 season. The seasonal positions are hired from July 1st through June 30th each year, and Pacific Opera’s shop is normally in operation from August to May. Opera Shop staff work under the jurisdiction of IATSE Local 168. Preference will be given to candidates who have five or more years of professional work experience in a shop/theatre environment. The Opera Shop’s normal hours of operation are from 8am-5pm Mon-Fri, but hours of employment will be as required depending on the demands of each production. In addition to hourly wages noted below, POV currently provides 5% in employer RRSP contributions, 5% vacation pay, and 4% in lieu of benefits; as well as access to a health and welfare fund paid by Pacific Opera and administered by the union.
