What's New > Anti-Racism - CITT/ICTS Board’s statement of solidarity
Dear members,
Recent and ongoing injustices and violence towards the Black and Indigenous communities in Canada and internationally have focused our attention to the ongoing systemic oppression of Black and Indigenous people within our country and communities, often at the hands of those who have sworn to protect.
We stand against the systemic oppression and violence against Black and Indigenous people within Canada and internationally. We stand against racism. We stand for inclusion. We stand with BlPOC (Black, Indigenous, People of Colour) technicians, designers, artists, employees, audiences, and the entire BIPOC community.
We, as the national board of directors, acknowledge that we too benefit from the white privilege ingrained in our society and our industry. We commit to continue this discussion within our board and with our membership in order to dismantle institutionalized racism from within our own organization as well as use our position within the entertainment industry to help create safe spaces and ensure BIPOC voices are heard. You can look forward to further details of our ongoing and future action plan in the coming weeks.
We encourage our members to look within their own institutions and communities so we can work together to challenge racism as an industry not just today but every day.
We encourage our members to listen to those who have been generous enough to speak up and support organizations that are led by Black and Indigenous artists across the country.
We commit to continue to learn and welcome any feedback regarding how we can make CITT/ICTS a safer and more inclusive space. Please email info@citt.org or president@citt.orgwith any questions, concerns, or feedback.
Black Lives Matter. Indigenous Lives Matter.

Stratford Festival patrons are invited for a singular look at what it likes to be Black in the world, and in this town and company.”
