Job Description / Duties

Due to an impending retirement, we are seeking a full time Technical Director for our 550 seat performing arts centre in one of Canada’s fastest growing cities, Lloydminster, Alberta. Reporting to the General Manager, the Technical Director oversees and executes all activity related to stage and backstage areas of the theatre including lighting, sound, projection, special effects, stage and backstage management, equipment acquisition & maintenance, and building operations related to the theatre.

As a team leader with a sense of humour, you enjoy working with a variety of users of the facilities including educational institutions, professional artists, business clients, non-profit groups and impresarios from across Canada. You understand quick turnarounds, accommodating different demands, scheduling and juggling resources to make things work seamlessly. You can stand back and watch your work unfold before you or you can grab a headset and take charge for the good of the show.

Qualifications / Required Skills

As the successful candidate, you have at least three years’ experience in one or more of the above areas, including two years or more in a management capacity.

The Vic Juba Community Theatre is Lloydminster’s 550 seat performing arts centre. Since it’s official opening on March 21, 2002, the theatre has been home to a wide variety of events from school and college performances to professional artist presentations, and rental activity by numerous businesses and impresarios across Canada. Built by the City of Lloydminster, it is run by a non-profit organization, led by a 12 member board of directors. Staff consists of four full time and 2 permanent part time people, plus numerous casual part time and many volunteers.

Lloydminster, population 32,000, is one of Canada’s fastest growing cities, and the country’s only border city having parts in both Alberta and Saskatchewan. It is located equal distance between Edmonton and Saskatoon.
