The Technical Director at STREB is a critical leader responsible for heading in-house and touring technical operations as well as advising on technical strategies, schedules, and budgets for all productions and events. S/he plays a key role in coordinating the STREB Extreme Action Company’s technical, education, & daily programming needs as well as facilities management as assigned by the Artistic and Co-Executive Directors.
Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
•Technical production logistics, rehearsal facilitation, & artistic vision support
•Technical direction and advancement for all touring productions
•Performer and equipment safety protocols development & management
•Collaboration with the AD and outside professionals in the technical design, drafting, engineering and fabrication of Company prototypes and finished equipment
•Recruit, hire, and supervise technical staff as required
•Strategize on budget and technical/facilities needs in coordination with STREB Management
•Support SLAM facilities needs in conjunction with support personnel
•Provide technical support for Special events and internal programs
•Maintain a production quality of the highest standard
•Professional experience in Technical Direction with a strong working knowledge of all areas of technical production
•Thorough understanding of structural and mechanical construction for the stage, both materials and techniques, including rigging.
•Strong interpersonal skills, integrity, high energy, creativity, a collaborative spirit, and the cultural sensitivity needed to work effectively in a diverse environment of artists, creative and management teams.
•Experience producing and supporting work in non-traditional theatrical environments.
•Proficiency in AutoCAD and/or Vectorworks.
•A passion for the performing arts and the desire to be part of a vibrant Brooklyn-based live arts company.
Salary: $55,000US-$75,000US based on experience and qualifications

In January 2003, STREB moved into a vacant former loading facility and transformed 51 North 1st Street into the STREB LAB FOR ACTION MECHANICS (SLAM), a multipurpose space that accommodates a 150-seat performance space, the company’s school, rehearsal facilities, trapeze rig and administrative offices.
