Job Description / Duties
POSITION SUMMARY
Reporting to the Technical Supervisor, the Technical Coordinator is an experienced theatre professional responsible for supporting the daily operations and management of BPAC’s Technical Department.
The successful candidate will demonstrate advanced knowledge of theatrical systems and provide both hands-on and administrative support for show advancement, crew scheduling, supervision, equipment maintenance, and venue operations. This role contributes to a culture of safety, service excellence, and continuous improvement in the delivery of all BPAC Presents and rental activities.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
• Support the Technical Supervisor in managing all aspects of technical operations, including set-ups, strikes, rehearsals, performances, and maintenance, ensuring a safe, efficient, and professional work environment.
• Fulfill show crew positions as required (audio, lighting, video, stage, rigging, and/or stage management).
• Supervise venue technicians, part-time technicians, and volunteer technical staff during load-ins, load-outs, performances, and maintenance calls.
• Serve as the on-site technical supervisor for assigned events, responsible for technical operations, crew scheduling, and any necessary adjustments in compliance with the Ontario Employment Standards Act, Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA), and BPAC policies.
• Work collaboratively with BPAC staff, artists, and external clients to advance events and performances—communicating technical and labour requirements, assessing costs, and advising on feasibility.
• Complete show reports, time sheets, settlements, and other administrative documentation accurately and on time.
• Assist the Director of Production & Operations and Technical Supervisor with contractors, service providers, and inspectors requiring facility access.
• Be included on the call list for any security or fire alarm response calls in the absence of the Director of Production & Operations or Technical Supervisor.
• Ensure all events and operations adhere to applicable laws, regulations, and safety standards.
• Support day-to-day troubleshooting and technical issue resolution.
• Work collaboratively with all BPAC departments to promote operational excellence, continuous improvement, and a positive workplace culture.
• Perform other related duties as mutually agreed upon with the Technical Supervisor and/or Director of Production & Operations.
Qualifications / Required Skills
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
• Post-secondary education in Technical Theatre, Event Management, or a related discipline, or an equivalent combination of training and professional experience.
• Minimum of three (3) years of recent experience in the technical or production department of a professional performing arts centre or entertainment venue.
• Proven knowledge of lighting, sound, and video technology.
• Sound understanding of the performing arts industry, technical operations, and relevant health and safety legislation.
• Demonstrated leadership and communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with staff, artists, clients, and the public.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, CAD, QLab, DiGiCo, and Grand MA consoles and strand control systems.
• Certifications in Working at Heights, Fall Arrest, First Aid, and WHMIS.
• Knowledge of OHSA, WHMIS, and Employment Standards Act regulations.

Salary: Salary Range: $60,000 – $65,000 per annum, commensurate with experience., please comprehensive benefits package.
