Job Description / Duties
The Stagehand is primarily a running crew position, who will also be brought in to assist on show installs and strikes. This position is intended to provide assistance across all departments and venues as needed, and as the skill set is appropriate. The ideal candidate has a general knowledge of backstage work, would be excited to broaden their skills and be part of a backstage team to run the shows on a nightly basis.
We are looking for a creative, outgoing, and enthusiastic person who has a passion for theatre. The successful applicant will have a broad knowledge in theatrical procedures and bring their own specialties to this position. The Stagehand will be self-motivated, have excellent communication skills, and the ability to remain calm in stressful situations. They must be flexible in outlook and approach to the position and be diplomatic in dealing with crews, cast, stage managers and all other staff.
This is a temporary position over the summer to work backstage on Come From Away and The Play That Goes Wrong. The Swing Stagehand will cover 2 to 3 show calls per week, learning a few backstage tracks and potentially providing additional support if illness in the regular crew, if available.
Preference will be given to members of IATSE local 118, although all are encouraged to apply.
• The primary job is to provide relief support for backstage running crews for our productions and assist on the installs and strikes.
• Work directly with department heads to achieve a high and professional level of technical stagecraft.
• Assist with set fit up and tear downs in all of our venues.
• Assist with truck loading/ unloading.
• Advise and assist with on-going stage & scenery maintenance.
Qualifications / Required Skills
• Broad knowledge in theatrical procedures, experience in stagecraft, lighting hangs and focus calls, sound and video installations, and dressing is all an asset.
• Ability to read and understand designer blueprints (e.g. floor plans, elevations).
• A knack for troubleshooting and solving technical problems in theatre.
• Take direction and work under time constraints with minimal supervision.
• Demonstrated strong organization and problem-solving skills.
• At least three years’ experience or equivalent as a technician for a professional theatre company.
• Valid LPEC certificate
• Able to work at heights & climb ladders, repeatedly lift, push or maneuver heavy loads, either alone or with assistance from others.

Salary: Salary: $30.04/hr. (according to IATSE Collective Agreement Sept. 24-27)
