Job Description / Duties

1. Key Event and Program Responsibilities.
• Provide supervision, mentorship and direction to the technical theatre work group and oversee necessary training.
• Coordinate all technical requirements for the proper execution of events happening within the venue.
• Provide technical expertise and consultation for all events at the Centre. This is done through event meetings, providing rental estimates, sourcing external rentals and materials, etc.
• Schedule the technical staff, contract/casual employees and technical volunteers to ensure all events are resourced appropriately.
• Coordinate OH&S checks with the Head Technician.
• Coordinate all major setup/strikes for large scale events.
• Available during performances to problem solve and as a resource for technical emergencies which may arise.
• Occasional physical work is required, including but not limited to: lifting heavy weights, awkward positions, climbing ladders, Aerial lifts and working at heights.
• Work closely with the Front of House Coordinator to ensure clear communication of clients needs.
• Work on Broadway North budget and oversee technical requirements for the success of the Broadway North production(s) and program.

2. Planning, projects and maintenance:
• Establish technical procedures and standards for operation of the facility.
• Plan, cost, budget & draft small event or facility construction projects as required.
• Plan and coordinate annual maintenance of the facility in conjunction with the Community Services Department.
• Maintain accurate and up to date venue technical specifications and equipment lists.
• Maintain accurate and up to date inventory of staging materials.
• Stay informed and up to date with advancements in production technology, equipment and safety related to the venues operation.

3. Volunteer Program:
• Work with the Front of House Coordinator and Marketing & Events Coordinator to cultivate and maintain a healthy technical volunteer company.
• Plan and teach technical volunteer workshops to the volunteer company.

4. General Duties
• Adhere to any budgets that are set for either specific events or annual budgets.
• Maintain a capital replacement program for the technical aspects of the venue.
• Attend to all inquiries through personal, telephone, and written communication.
• Follow acts, regulations, bylaws, agreements, policies and procedures.
• Follow regulations, acts and policies of Occupational Health & Safety.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications / Required Skills

Education Training & Experience:
• Degree or diploma related to technical theatre from an accredited institution;
• Minimum of four years professional experience as a head technician, technical director or production manager.
• Experience as a lighting technician and lighting console operator. Experience with ETC EOS family console software an asset.
• Experience with mixing live sound on a digital sound console. Experience with Digico SD series consoles an asset.
• Experience with SFX sound playback software an asset.
• Experience with stage carpentry and stage rigging in a fly house.
• Fall arrest, Aerial lift training, Pyrotechnics Certification, computer/networking background are assets.
• Satisfactory criminal record check

Key Knowledge, Technical Skills and Abilities:
• Knowledgeable in stage craft and scenic construction
• Ability to read and produce technical drawings. Experience with AutoCAD an asset.
• Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
• Excellent customer service skills.
• Ability to work independently.
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and ticketing & event software (ex. Theatre Manager)
• Must be able to work daytime, evenings and weekends.
• Class 5 driver’s license.

Additional Information

To provide excellent technical support and customer service to the artists, clients and community users of the EA Rawlinson Centre for the Performing Arts. The individual will have well-rounded experience in all areas of technical theatre and an in depth understanding of the operation of a performing arts centre that will meet the requirements of the diverse users of our facility.

This position plans for, monitors, coordinates, and executes the activities and shows in the EARC, overseeing a staff of theatre technicians, casual/contract employees, and volunteers. As a key point of contact, the Production Manager meets clients to review requirements and then organizes events passing information to the Technicians. The position receives or creates procedures pertaining to the daily operation of the technical theatre work group. The PM works closely with the General Manager to review policies and resolve concerns. The Production Manager reviews requirements for all performance events happening in the EARC. The Production Manager also ensures that artistic quality and integrity are maintained as required by each event.

Salary: Annual Salary: $62,148 to $75,552

The facility is owned & operated by the City of Prince Albert. The Mann Art Gallery organization is governed by a separate Board of Directors and membership.
