An opportunity has become available at Niagara Falls Entertainment Centre (NFEC) (the Facility) for an experienced Maintenance Electrical Technician with a background in both electrical technical work and theatre systems (Lighting, Rigging and AV). The role includes responsibility for troubleshooting, maintenance, repair, operation and tear down of systems of all sizes, in various venues and environments for live events. This role will support in the maintenance, repair and upgrading of electrical building and theatre system components and related installations. This position will report to the Facility Manager for the Niagara Falls Entertainment Centre (NFEC).
Key responsibilities include:
• Perform skilled technical work as part of a maintenance team following instructions from the Facility Manager including the maintenance, repair and upgrading of electrical building components, A/V equipment, theatre lighting, video equipment and related installations including the performance of a variety of maintenance and installation tasks according to established schedules, methods and procedures.
• Maintain an inventory of parts and supplies
• Operate lift equipment and delivery trucks in accordance with company safety standards/policies and ensure all venue safety requirements and supplier protocols are adhered to
• Documentation of standards and operating procedures
• Methodically troubleshoot technical challenges and demonstrating creative problem-solving skills
• Fulfil Health & Safety responsibilities by adherence to the requirements in the company’s Health & Safety program and operational procedures
• Read and interpreting electrical, video, lighting and audio system paperwork for use in execution on site
• Provide technical support during event hours and assist with electrical, A/V, theatre lighting equipment if issues arise, and perform a variety of technical theatre duties that support live performances and other events, as required.
• Responsible for identifying malfunctions and undertake routine repairs or recommend those of greater complexity. Additionally, you will demonstrate a familiarity with industry standards of special event lighting practices including signal flow, networking, power distribution and electrical safety.
• Carry out electrical repairs and cleaning of A/V and lighting components and equipment and prepare record keeping related to the work.
• Prepare, label, and scan equipment as required and may be required to working at heights, either in lifts or on ladders.
• Perform other work outside of position’s usual trade certification but within the individual’s capability or work experience as part of the maintenance team.
• A strong electrical and technical background and a minimum of 3-5 years hands-on experience of audio, video and lighting equipment.

• Completion of industry related post-secondary program in Technical Theatre or the equivalent combination (3 years or more) of experience and education
• Must have the ability to be flexible in working hours, be available to work outside regular business hours and have the ability to travel periodically as work dictates and have flexibility to accommodate and deliver last minute changes to meeting requirements
• Has research and field experience to provide input on technical equipment inventory acquisition plans
• Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings and knowledge of common practices used in live events and theatre.
• Technical knowledge of audio, video, projection, computer, lighting, and rigging equipment
• Knowledge of lift machinery and equipment, such as scissor and boom lifts, and the safe working procedures involved.
• Proficient with computer systems used in multimedia production, including web-casting
• Experience focusing projectors, setting up screens, dealing with various resolutions and signal conversion
• Commitment to exceptional customer service/exceeding client expectations and Professional image and demeanour
• Creative and flexible, with the ability to interact with clients and co-workers, often under deadline pressures
• Is proactive and identify potential concerns during the pre-planning phase of an event with business areas
The Working Conditions
You must be able to work in a flexible working environment and will be exposed to different weather conditions is to be expected. We require for you to be physically able and to abide by our Health and Safety guidelines of regular lifting and carrying of up to 40 pounds. You must be flexible to be on your feet and be able to walk, sit, and stand throughout a shift. You must work in compliance with the provisions of the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA) and the regulations and according to safe practices and procedures. You are responsible to report all injuries, incidents and unusual conditions immediately to supervisor and attend all required health and safety training programs (e.g. WHMIS, orientation).
Salary: annual salary between $50K pa. and $60K pa. (base salary) plus benefits (health insurance, pension, education funds)
