Job Description / Duties

The Lead Scenic Artist works in coordination with the Head Scenic Artist to paint and produce specialty finishes such as marble, wood grain, aging, breakdown, and other faux finishes. They must be able to execute painting of a pictorial nature on any scale including backdrops and cut-outs. They must also be able to assume all responsibilities in the absence of the Head Scenic Artist.

Salary: 2021-2022 Hourly Wage: $30.62 + benefits with a minimum hour guarantee of 420 hours over the season.

Employer Profile

Pacific Opera Victoria is currently accepting applications for the two following seasonal positions for the 2021/2022 season. The seasonal positions are hired from July 1st through June 30th each year, and Pacific Opera’s shop is normally in operation from August to May. Opera Shop staff work under the jurisdiction of IATSE Local 168. Preference will be given to candidates who have five or more years of professional work experience in a shop/theatre environment.
In addition to hourly wages noted below, Pacific Opera currently provides:
- 5% in employer RRSP contributions
- 5% vacation pay
- 4% in lieu of benefits
- Access to a health and welfare fund paid for by Pacific Opera and administered by the union.

ALL DATES IN ALL POSITIONS ARE TO BE DETERMINED IN RESPONSE TO PUBLIC HEALTH DIRECTIVES. Work weeks may include some (but not all) weekends for all departments, with scheduling to keep staff on site to a minimum. Presently, each department is scheduled to work 5-day work weeks with a 2-day weekend.
